LG DM2780D 27" 3D monitor

What are the other 3d options for (side by side, top/bottom and the other one I cant explain!)?

Side by Side ? have a look at this LG demo in normal mode - that will be easier than trying to explain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTEPm5ZUcXU&feature=related

To experience in 3D - Make it "1080p HD" quality and Play it "Full Screen".
Use the 3D button on remote and choose SBS (side by side) to view in 3D.
SBS is the most common format out there.

Top/bottom - commonly known as OU (Over Under) is similar except the image is split Over and Under in the same frame rather than SBS.

Those 2 cover the 99.99999% of content 'out there'
----------------------------------------------------
The other 2 you probaby wont find content for (unless its test content)but some Hardware and Software will output 3D in this format (and you normally select these formats from the source output and not on the Monitor)

Checkerboard - same thing except the 2 images are split in a checkerboard pattern.

Interleaved - Same thing again except the 2 images are split into horizontal lines. ("Line Interleaved" is what you would choose for output from PowerDVD ultra for instance)

Hi all,

Decided to give the LG a try and went for the 23" version as I sit quite close to the screen. Surprise, surprise I have 3D Cinema glasses in the box.

Not quite sure if I have it setup right, I don't see purple ghosting anywhere but I do see TERRIBLE crosstalk. It's unwatchable in 3D. Is this because of the glasses? Tilting my head makes no difference.

They are 3D SBS movies, tried the TriDef player and PowerDVD. Both are the same

anyway, what's the quickest/easiest way of getting the correct glasses?

oh, and finally.....what settings is everyone using?

Mines:

Brightness - 30
Contrast - 60
Cool

Just can't see to settle with it at the minute, and anything brighter seems to give me eye strain.

Yes the wrong glasses cause crosstalk. However Tilting your head to the left 45 deg should make a big difference.

I was lucky - all I did was contact them via the online email form on the LG site - what I put on the form is documented on page 2 of this thread. After following their response instructions I got the "right" glasses in the post about a week later.

My Settings (For normal PC use)
Backlight -33
Brightness - 50
Contrast -68

sorry for sounding thick, but where's backlight

The option for backlighting is under Menu -> Picture -> Picture Mode. Although you'd have to be kind of blind to miss it :p

If your asking physically where it is, its behind the screen. Quick google and here you go ;)

I'm looking to buy a 27" monitor for my PC (mainly used for gaming and video playback) and also want to connect my Blu-Ray player to the monitor (for DVD/Blu-Ray playback). I'm not really bothered about the 3D to be honest, it's of no use to me, so I just want a new 2D monitor with superb picture quality for gaming via PC (although I will be plugging my PS3 into it eventually) and watching TV and films.

Is this monitor good for the things above? PC gaming/video playback and video playback via a Blu-Ray player? Also, does this monitor come with a TV tuner? Or is there a version with a TV tuner and one without?

I think someone has definately made an impression on LG

Just phoned them up, and as soon as I said 'I've just bought a 3D monitor and......' the bloke started laughing and said 'You have the wrong glasses and get purple ghosting' :D

Said I could keep the glasses I have (great as we also have the LG 3DTV downstairs) and he would send the replacement ones out tomorrow :p

Well, even though i had a bit of a rant in post number 119 in this thread i had to see what all the fuss is about - so i ordered an LG 2342p from a "rainforest". I look forward to my phone call to LG to get my glasses replaced. :D

Video - from HDMI sources - PS3, PC and Xtreamer Media Player, The picture is fine and there are a few settings for you to play with. Audio is best sent from source to a reciever/amp but can be downmixed at source and sent to the monitor.

Video - from USB - can play most MKVs, MP4 and divx/Xvids but cant do anything with DTS or other HD audio.(needs AC3 AAC MP3 or plain old stereo PCM)

Games - tried a few now both from PC and PS3. Havent noticed any motion trails or anything like that.
It has a game mode which might shed a microsecond or two off the response time - I wouldnt notice.
Not reallysure how to rate it as a Games monitor except its good enough for me. But I am not an avid extreme online gamer and on PC my graphics (GT 520) is not really up to it (Crysis for example).

3D - like you, I wasnt at all bothered about this, but since trying out a few games using Tridef and actual 3D games from PS3, I am a convert. Really does add an extra dimension - literally and metaphorically.

TV - its a half decent standalone TV when you want it.

Audio - already covered I think - it does have optical out (but not for DTS etc)

The other version is the LG M2780D which seems identical minus the 3D, and ironically more expensive. Both versions have DVB-T tuner.

Odd, not noticed that on mine. But then I don't sit very close to it.

Overall I found the screen image quality exceeded my expectations having gotten used to a 2560x1440 IPS display.

And despite everyones issues with glasses, if they ever release the 3D IPS screens, I will be trying them out and if good might even go back to single display.

At least this time, I should have at least one air of every kind of glasses, so shouldn't have any issues :D

I sit 2.5 feet from the monitor and the LG is the only monitor I've ever seen the horizontal lines on and it was very annoying. I previously tried a Samsung 27" 3D monitor and its 2D display was very sharp but there was significant 3D ghosting so I returned it.

Must have been a misplaced layer on the panel.
What you described sounds exactly like what is seen when using the PC (for normal use), while still wearing the polarised 3D glasses - difficult (but not impossible) to use if you dont take off the glasses.
The image for 2D is just about perfect - there should be no visible horizontal lines.

The 3D was also very poor on this monitor even tilting the glasses to get rid of the purple ghosting. It could have been a defective monitor, I may order a new one and give it another try if LG ever sends me the right glasses. At least now LG Canada is acknowledging the factory screwed up and packed the wrong glasses with the monitor.

damnit, getting very frustrated - not got the glasses yet so phoned LG - another problem and they havent sent them out yet but assure me they will be sent out.

So far 4 emails and 7 phonecalls and a stupid amount of my time to solve a really simple issue!!!

It turned up a couple of hours ago complete with wrong glasses :D. I phoned up LG customer services and spoke to a guy I think said his name was Lewis and as soon as I said i think I have the wrong 3d glasses with my monitor he said "i suppose you have the D2342". He said that LG are well aware of the issue and not to worry as he will get the correct glasses sent out ASAP. He did mention that they usually ask for the customer to send the glasses they have back before sending out any replacements. But, as they are now aware that this has happened to more products than they originally thought that they just require a screenshot of my receipt and for me to tell him the serial number and model number from the back of the monitor. He was a very nice and helpful man.

Hopefully in a few days I will get a new pair of 3D monitor glasses.

I just played SUPER STARDUST HD on the PS3 in 3D = wow, it was a very good 3D effect.

I also bought mine from here, got the right specs though

Haven't had time to read the whole thread, sorry if it's been answered.

Ordered the 23" version D2342P for delivery monday.
I want to connect my PS3 and PC to the monitor both for 3D. Do I get everything everything in the box to do this? I'm currently using old HDMI cables, probably v1.3 (not sure).

Do I need to buy anything else for this to work?
Want to make sure I've got everything ready for when it arrives.

You need a High Speed HDMI cable for 3D, which LG doesn't provide. The only cable that came in the box with my DM2780D monitor was a useless VGA cable :(
