LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Ohhh, looks interesting.

I wondering what the PPI is like on that at 31" compared to the 34UM95, and what it would be if they'd made it slightly larger.

The PPI for a 21:9 ultrawide 34" like the current 34UM95 is 109 pixels per inch.

For comaprison, the Retina Macbooks and the new 5K iMac are all approx 220ppi.

149ppi assuming the panel is exactly 31" diagonally (they never normally are). optimal viewing distance about 21".

Apologies if this has already been linked to in this thread.

Looks like Philips have announced a 40" 4K monitor, which works out at 109PPI, so no scaling issues and it should be essentially adding straight up screen real estate if upgrading from a 27" WQHD 1444x2560.

So at 109 ppi we have:

27" WQHD 1440x2560 = 3,686,400 px
34" Ultrawide 1440x3440 = 4,953,600 px - 34% more screen real estate.
40" 4K 2160x3840 = 8,294,400 px - 125% more screen real estate

Hmmm...decisions decisions. I imagine the 40" would be insanely big. Would be immense for productivity though.

I think he means more the glorious 21.9 aspect ratio :p No black borders FTW! :D

4k is all well and good if you have at least 3 top end GPU's to run the majority of games at 50+FPS constantly with max/high settings (+ a good case + a good PSU + a good CPU). Sadly though, a lot of games have poor support when it comes to 3+ GPUs

Until we have much better performing GPU's (probably another 2 years), I won't be going any higher than 2560x1440 res.

I got the 34UM65 delivered this afternoon.

Polystyrene packing snapped yet no sign of the broken piece.
No screws.
Sticker for power rating not on the screen. Loose in box and full of hair which was quite disgusting.
Manuals all loose in the box.
AC/DC Adapter already open.
Screw Cover already open.
Scuffs on front of screen
Rev.1 April.

Is it fair to say I have not been sent a new monitor? Was hoping I may get lucky with the screen. Seems I was wrong.

All that hair on the sticky bit is sick... Im so angry.

Best just message customer support and get them to swap it out for a new one.

For all you know it could have been a return that went back to LG and then LG sent it back to OcUK as new stock with a different sticker on the box :(

£499? You paid £499? Then you must have bought from clearance section. That would explain the condition... not that this excuses it, or that you aren't entitled to complain and send it back.
