LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Well 840 if you include the 2 metre Displayport cable :D - I'll make a portion of the cost back from selling the 24" and 27" of course but still.

Knowing my luck the display cable will be in the box anyway.

LED backlit or not doesn't denote what power lead it uses :p Both my Dell screens are LED backlit yet use kettle leads!

Kinda usually does - less power consuming items use Fig 8 leads unless the Manufacturer decides otherwise due to whatever reason like having already bought loads of kettle leads.

And I was right :p

From the manual it seems you use the USB3 hub from only using a TB connection to your Mac/PC. Also it seems TB can do display as well as data.

Also 10 bit colour isn't supported over thunderbolt only Displayport, I am assuming this is an issue with Mac OS X (as it doesn't support 10 bit at all), rather than the TB standard?

So why don't the Dell screens which are LED backlit have figure 8? ;p They're low power screens after all.

It's just a common trend I've seen. All new LED BL screens that I've seen come with Fig 8 leads now. Kettle lead is overkill.

Even my 46" TV uses it.

edit - I'm guessing your old LED BL Monitor was bought before 2013?

Ok, bought!!! aarrghhh, ok me and you MRK!!

btw, what display port cable did ya buy?

I also bought a display port cable because I bet it won't come with one, went with an Accell UltraAV DisplayPort 1.2 3M for $20.

I wanted to make sure I got a 1.2 and not 1.1a so it will 100% work with the 3440 x 1440 @ 60Hz

The U2412M was yes but the U2713HM was bought in 2013 (OcUK). I didn't even get Harribo with the order yet the guy who bought a £10 USB stick the same week did?! Talk about customer priorities!

It's on! I ordered this cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005H3Q59U/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - Looks like the cable has shipped already, should be here Tuesday. fast movement for a bank holiday weekend.

mrk that cable will work @ 1440p.

Also confirmed with customer review:

Works as expected. I'm running it with 2560x1440 resolution without any issues despite the fact that it says "Supports up to 1080p and 1920x1200 resolution" in the description. The cable looks well made and the price is reasonable.
