LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

As I say, some films it works really well for and doesn't matter as you're not missing anything of significance top and bottom and the wide aspect gives a better cinematic feel.

Other films have important things going on constantly around the whole frame and it doesn't work so well on those.

Pick and mix.

Well I caved and picked up a 34UM65 earlier!! Been setup 30mins and LOVE it so far!! VLC does a cool thing where it can auto crop to 2:35:1 and that's doing me great for TV shows :) (Movies seem to be fine at native, no black bars)

Glad I went for it, don't need the Pro features of the 95 and this will be tonnes less stressful on the gfx :D

Will throw up some pics once I have everything tidied and setup properly

I'll look forward to seeing this. I'm very tempted by this monitor myself, was waiting for somebody to post their thoughts on it :)

Going to cut part of peeps heads of wit any of those zooms as you do today with may cropped movie rips.

Best to watch it as it is meant to be IMO

Yep I have the same issue on my Dell 2913MW, but I watch all 16:9 stuff at 14:9 and have no problem :) Although might be different on the LG due to 1440p v 1080p ?

So European plug and no adapter. Is it OK to use one of those cube like multiplugs and put the two pins in the bottom

I really love my 16:10 as you know that aspect ratio is so perfect but these 21:9 are just so good looking ;)

Love my 30 too tbh, but when this is right it's sooooooooo right. Cinema for one  :D

I won't lie, it's not perfect and their are a couple of small compromises but overall I'm very happy with my decision :)

Yes, sold them on as they are useless. The light they give out is so low that you can't really have any other light on in the room. So only useable if you game in the dark.

But then the amBX software is truly dreadful. It looks like it was developed for Windows XP and just about works on Windows 7, often crashing. For the few games that have full support, e.g. Deus Ex, the effect is reasonable. But for anything else you just get some dull grey light.

The final straw for me was Skyrim. With the amBX software loaded it would half the frame rate. After four months the company hadn't fixed it or even responded to the issue. At the time this was probably the biggest game of the year which is a big fail for a gaming peripheral.

whats the size of that Samsung next to the 34 please Lartyconshayo

just looks quite a bit taller than the 34

It's a syncmaster 2693. 27 inch screen.

I know the LG looks great but I also have a 60" Plasma for movies so it does not compare to that size wise anyway. The lack of 21:9 PC gaming support is a PITA as so many games are forced 16:9 support.

Such a shame as gaming with the pillowboxing on Dark Souls 2 is immersion breaking :(

What games did you struggle 21:9 AWPC? I'm finding it's mainly GFWL games that suck with 21:9 (And "From" aren't great PC coders, so I don't expect 21:9 support there to work properly)

Aside from some menu problems, I've found 21:9 pretty good. SWTOR was perfect 21:9. Fifa 14's immense, seeing more of the pitch, I'm making some ridiculously good through balls.

Even playing Racoon City had proper 21:9 support for the game, running at 72hz it's really a nice experience.

Witcher 1 I'm playing through at the moment works fine for the most part if you lower lighting settings.

Watching Blu-rays is insane too, and anything that's 16:9 I just watch on the 23.5" Sammy, any games that don't work 21:9 I just stream to the Ultrabook 1080p at 16:9.

Hi Mrk, what do you think of this review, particularly their colour-calibrated section. Didn't you succeed in achieving 2.2 gamma?

.. Looks like you've already seen it over at HardForum.
