LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Brightness at 40 is rather high no? Mine is at 14 as set by LG's software during calibration. Anyhoo, glow is there but not like your pictures show! I think I mentioned before that on mine the glow is more or less the same as the Dell 27" I had before, just covered over more screen area as it's wider so it's nothing out of the ordinary for me.

so brightness 14

contrast ?

Any other settings those of us who don't have a calibrator should know about ;)

The RGB controls are greyed out as mine is controlled by the hardware and LG software so can't see those, the contrast is 70.

My own readings from HCFR for contrast ratio says 859 and a manual reading using lagom's manual method where you upload 2 photos of the output and they measure the contrast ratio gives a rough 1277 so taking the average between the two it's well within spec I'd say.

Energy saving is also turned off.

Thanks mate, I've been looking at the AOC/Asus 4K displays, and then you came along!

Also when you get home can you check to see if this video plays well for you?

I've black bars on my end, and I assume it's due to me having a 16:9 display.

Will do.

.

thanks mrk

That video is natively 21:9, no letter/windowboxes, looks nice :)

Other videos that are the same:

Interstellar 4K UHD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sIlwvumVs4&feature=player_detailpage

Elysium 4K UHD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oXG3-7R_k8

This is really odd, both of those only show up as 720p at their max quality setting.

Also just heard back from the two developers I do stuff for. They won't be supporting 21:9 properly for OSX and their games. :(
They do already however have UHD support, and are improving it. Guess that's my choice made up.

Weird 2160P is the max res choice on Youtube for me on videos above and others that are UHD. Update your Flash player? I'm on version 13.

This is weird, I wonder if it's the latest Safari acting up! I have the HMTL5 player set as well.

Edit: Just checked and it's fine in Chrome. :( I have the latest flash player as well.

I'm gonna have to post another picture, just started to do the monthly website update and this is the kind of workflow where this aspect ratio @ 1440P vertical really shines:

All on one screen instead of two is much better for convenience and desk space

Dammit mrk I hate you right now.

Any chance that this monitor will support adaptive sync?

No idea. I don't think anyone is sure if it is even DP 1.2a. Hopefully it will be included in a firmware update if possible. Especially now given that LG are aware of Linus' video and how well received the monitor is by the gaming community.

Mrk you done it again, awesome picture:)

Do you have any rts games to showoff as I imagine a monitor like that would be great for rts games. A total war game or civ would be great:)

With what fov for TF2 and L4D2 as those are the games i cannot wait to get playing when my AOC arrives. I see people using 110 in Mirrors Edge cinematic youtube trailers and others using 100. But i noticed they had stretch and objects looked a bit distant. So i am thinking that 90 may still be the ideal fov for 21:9 gaming.

That is the same fov as i use now and i can see fisheye from 90-95 and distant objects looking further away in Chivalry Medieval Warfare. Why do they pump the fov up is this something you are expected to do on ultrawide or are people being greedy now for more space on the sides?

90 FOV is the max in the video settings of the game, I guess L4D2 is the same. In reality on this aspect ratio 90 in game is probably closer to 100 actual. Still, looks great. Stay tuned!
