LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Ah i think COD are doing the same soon! Natural Selection 2 is another interesting title because fov changes dynamic between human and alien i always hated the alien 95 or 100fov on 16:9. Would love to see Napoleon or Shogun II on this i can imagine a huge pan across ten thousand men in glorious direct x 11.

In online FPS in most instances you have a nice advantage with 21:9 because you can see far more either side meaning you can view 2 corners of one area and spot enemmies coming without having to flick left and right every second or so to see if anyone is approaching.

With TF2 and Heavy+Tomislov you have a deadly silent killer that can see in ultra wide angle :D

Played a bit of portal 2 tonight. Was actually really smooth. Had to buy a mini dp to dp cable as my gigabyte 7870 only has mini dp ports. Before that was gaming at 50hz and noticeable juddering.

What setting do you have response time on mrk ?

Also watched the bluray of Drive on this tonight. Beautiful. I can really lose myself in movies on this thing.

Decided to return mine after getting a few second opinions. Will hopefully eventually end up with a replacement working monitor! Love the pictures and I notice you have no orangey glow in the lower left corner of yours, mrk.

There is some IPS glow, it's not a problem though and as mentioned no different to my previous 27" so I'm used to it.

I tried to compare 16:9 vs 21:9 but in the games I play like TF2 2560x1440 is now missing as the game doesn't recognise it as a valid resolution. Other games seem fine though like Grid 2 but that doesn't give you an impression of what it's like in an FPS game lol.

Yeah, likewise. I had a bit on my 24" as well. But it was more of the classic IPS glow which is whiter and way less prominent than the warm orange of my particular 34UM95.

My HP LP2475w for comparison.

Eventually decided to return mine today. It's a beautiful screen but the 21:9 aspect is too extreme for my tastes. There's loads of width available but the vertical just feels a bit restrictive really. So back to the trust Dell 3007 for now.

I've has a look at the 28" 4k screens and they're going to be a touch too small so I'm just going to wait to see what's round the corner.

I have a very interested eye on the upcoming 31UM95...

How well do you think my Crossfire 7970's will drive one of these? In terms of an approximate percentage how much more GPU power would it take to drive these?

edit, normally play at 1080p

Well it looks like i am back on board for one! Got the 29 incher AOC delivered earlier and even for £275 it is too much money. The packaging was horrible, The plugs were stained and the bezel was dirty in places.

And then i held it up to my face with the floor covered in polystyrene and realised 1080p vertical was too little. I am really ****ed i have to go through returns im tempted to ask them to do it due to the plug and condition. They do not even put a film over the monitor. Mrk how do you rate LG's UM95 in that department? Is it suitable for someone with OCD you will have to give me a good answer on packaging here because you are partly at fault as i cannot get those L4D screenshots out of my head when i look at the AOC. It is like some unwanted lovechild sitting here...

Haha! I take no blame! :p

LG's packaging seemed fairly good. Not really any different to others like Dell etc. The only difference here was LG didn't put one of those additional foam layers with sticky tabs on the panel itself that you remove, wasn't really needed anyway though given the type of front of this. It came wrapped in foam wrap though all on its own for protection.

The whole thing comes in a MASSIVE box. Seriously, my loft and cupboards are not big enough for it to fit through or in so currently it is under a bed for the warranty period. The sides and top/bottom of the UM95 are chrome too, it doesn't feel like plastic or metal, more like a hybrid maybe carbonate skeleton as it feels solid. The rest is plastic but feels better quality plastic than what Dell use. Dell's plastic starts to creak when pressed after the first few weeks as it heats up and cools down. None of that here yet.

The little joystick OSD button is the best implementation of OSD use I have seen on a monitor. It's simply brilliant.
