LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

I have an apple 27" to compare it to so will review it :p If my TB display sells might see if I can get this LG too. I'll need a bigger desk. The Samsung does sound ok from some reviews but like you say it is a bit of a gamble. I'll know soon enough

You won't get letterboxing anywhere in the video if you upload 21:9 :) I have videos up of games being played at half native res and they fill the screen when played back on YouTube.

It's only videos where the author has done a bad job where you get letterboxing or if the video is natively 16:9 or 4:3 in which case you get windowboxing.

You don't see letter boxing because you have a 21:9 display. :p Even if I watch your videos I see letter boxing.

Every 21:9 video I watch on youtube, and that others I ask to watch see black bars top and bottom.

Ah yeah I mean watching them on a 21:9 :D

Sod everyone else!

Although that's how it should be anyway. This is the proper cinematic aspect ratio, if those people were watching a film they'd get letterboxes anyway unless they had a 21:9 so technically everyone else is on the wrong monitor :p

I know! That's how I feel about it, but if I'm afraid if I upload the vids and people see letter boxing they think bad quality and editing. :(

Do the same people think that when watching a blu-ray movie at home? Because they get letterboxing with those too :p

Double standards, that's the issue. Although I'm still getting the monitor, and I'll upload and look at the responses. See how they react, otherwise it's a cropping and scaling I go.

I really really like 21:9, its fantastic. Pity 16:9 as a compromise appeared.

I'm not understanding people's reasoning behind getting a 4k screen because they can't wait for the next stock of 21:9's to come in. They serve two completely different markets and purposes in my eyes. How can you be looking forward to a 21:9 viewing experience, only to be served up with a 4k 16:9 screen.

It's a bit like saying you are eating cake because you couldn't wait for your sausages to cook.

Whilst 4k would be lovely and sharp, it is utterly pointless as you would then need to have 2 top end GPU's in order to run games smoothly on mostly max settings thus talking about £600 on GPU's alone (and then possibly needing to upgrade PSU, case for better cooling etc.)

And of course all the problems mentioned above with 4k + TN = :(

Also have no problem with IPS screens and gaming, still come number 1 in bf 4 90% of the time :p

Yeah but BF4... For shame :p

PFFFFFFFFFFFFT! :p

BF 4 FTW! :D Game is extremely stable with perfect netcode.........

:p

Will have to reinstall TF 2, been a long time since I played it!

On a vaguely related note I bought the 29" LG 21:9 at launch and it also had awful backlight bleed and black-to-black pixel lag.

See my pics here: http://imgur.com/a/ihkL6/layout/blog

Not great :( AFAIK, it is using the same panel as the 29um65.....

Although there were two revisions of that monitor, one had beyond terrible input lag and the newer one has superb performance, one of the best for IPS monitors according to anandtech.

Regarding stock, apparently 200 of the 29um65's are coming in stock "very very soon" so hopefully it will be the same for the 34" monitor! Here is hoping my RMA replacement is more or less perfect, if not, I will do one more RMA and if it is no better, just get a refund and get something else or wait :(

I'm guessing because in my case I want a new monitor. I have had this dell 2560x1600 since 2008 now, and I saw the LG and thought I want! However, due to stock issues its not available.. and now I see 4k.. and I want! I like new things :)

How can some people be so impatient? Whats so urgent that it's life and death to get it versus a few days to next week?

It's not being impatient. We've been told every week for the last 3 that they are due in imminently. What compounds the frustration is that OC is one of the very few companies that actually takes your money when you pre order and this monitor isn't cheap. I'm not blaming OC btw. I genuinely think they have no idea where the new stock is. And I probably am a bit impatient. Like someone else said. I like new shiny things!
