LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Frames are mine :D

Edit*
Just logged into LG's site as I forgot I could track progress of the RMA there, turns out it isn't a 3rd party repair centre but LG UK themselves.

Going to call them to find out about an ETA.

Edit2*
Called up and have been told the worst case scenario is that I get it back Monday but since it was collected on the 12th I should get it back Thursday/Friday so I could potentially get a call from them today to arrange delivery. A "part" has been ordered apparently too but no mention of what part and that's what is being waited on at the moment.

mrk, without me reading, what has been the problem with yours? (I am being lazy sorry)

I am really thinking of trying the 34" monster, but is it worth it right now or should I hold off?

Just a quick update on mine. I turned off DP 1.2 and changed the volume of the built-in speakers to zero, but still had the odd popping noise.

I actually think it might be the monitor warming up and maybe the case expanding or something like that as I don't think I noticed it as much once the monitor had been on for awhile.

Still a bit odd and definitely something I'm going to keep an eye (ear) out for going forwards.

My panel's backlight started to bleed around the bottom and corners, it was more than just glow! Initiated an RMA and this is where we are today :p

There's a been a massive delay in these monitors, and speculation is LG did it to sort out the blood issues monitors were suffering from. So until the new batch arrives and people report on it, it's hard to say.

I'm still going to get one, hoping it's all sorted by then.

Yup I'm guessing the "Part" ordered for my one being repaired is a new panel with those fixes and updates in!

I'm hoping for the same as well. bar the whole youtube being rubbish for scaling and being dynamic for aspect ratios that aren't 16:9, I want this monitor. :D

4K doesn't appeal to me at all anymore, especially since it seems to have far more issues.

What timescale are you expecting roughly?

OcUK lists the monitors' ETA for Friday. Hopefully they get a massive amount of stock is they sell out super quickly.

Nice, thanks. Pay day next Wed. I am after the 34UM95 thingy anyway, so hopefully others will buy, test and then let me know whether to buy one. The risk is that they're all sold out by then

Thanks for beta testing this monitor for me guys. :)

That's what we're here for :p

As above haha. Great minds

Review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8057/lg-34um95-monitor-review

Reviewer was very impressed, particularly liked the extra height from 1440 over a 1080 screen.

I soo want one of these, it's just the GPU and PSU upgrade I'd need as well makes it a very expensive proposition. Currently at 1200p with a pair of GTX670s and an 850W PSU.

Interesting is that on the bottom of page 4 he says
http://www.anandtech.com/show/8057/lg-34um95-monitor-review/4

"CalMAN will still provide superior results as the LG display lacks an internal LUT."

I thought the LG DID have an internal LUT, as it could be hardware calibrated. What are they on about.

Thanks for the link that is what i actually really wanted thier comparison with the 29" MX299Q. It is scary how close both come in contrast and post-calibration. Althought the smaller one still pips it by a bit in one test and input lag is 9ms v 18ms. No mention of pixel response times either with 12ms on the 29" with overdrive on highest.

Not bad considering they had to bump that up to 34 inches. The scaler or whatever is adding in that double input lag needs fixed though.

I have an update from LG UK regarding my repair.

The part they have ordered from LG "could" take days or even weeks, they simply cannot confirm an ETA for whatever reason. They called to discuss options and also request a forward of the purchase receipt which I have done.

Having had a long chat with him it boils down to this.
If the part cannot be supplied within a reasonable timeframe (up to a week since it has already been a week come tomorrow) then he has posted a message to their admin team to see if they can do a direct exchange with a new monitor. Now the problem with that is since LG are not a direct reseller themselves they too need to source a retail monitor and he mentioned InsightUK have them listed though not in stock. He said the worst case scenario in that situation is it "could" take up to 28 days but usually takes far less. I did mention that OcUK should be getting stock in too but no idea how that is going to pan out.

He mentioned initially that what they were probably going to do was return the monitor to me with a note for the retailer giving them instructions to direct exchange the monitor but I mentioned they're in Germany and that's when the above discussion started.

So looks like no monitor this week then. Bit of an arse ache if you ask me and I am hoping that they can get a direct exchange in within a reasonable timeframe if the part needed for mine is going to take weeks.

Edit*
There is something wrong with the Anandtech review, they have some of their facts wrong. It does have a hardware LUT.
