Lids off when buying petrol

I drive a car and I find it annoying I have to take off my seatbelt open my door and get out the car, I normally try and wave someone out to do it for me.

Jeez I had a moped when I was younger and never had a problem with it, are you lazy or something?

great argument, i don't sit 'in' a bike, and it has no doors or seatbelts

not sure why i even bothered replying tbh ;)

And the OP's attitude is some thing that wont help bikers and how they appear to others. Matey boy in the garage may think all bikers are like the OP and give em all grief in future.

From my perspective the gimp in the garage gave me grief.. it felt that way from my end, which is that of the customer.

I'm never gonna cave in and undress / follow orders of a forecourt monkey, maybe it's abit of pride as well that comes into it... but I aint being treated like some 2nd class citizen by a spotty teenager.

You may struggle to get petrol in the future then!:p

Are you also the type of guy who refuses to take his shoes off when going through airports as you don't want to be treated like a 2nd class citizen?

I take my lid of at garages out of courtesy to the staff. The time it takes to walk from bike to door i can get the lid off, and get cash/card out.

If it really bothers you then use the "pay at pump" option, no agro from PFY.

Maybe he wont follow your orders despite you being holier than thou and must be obeyed as you are the customer and are always right.

And then he wont turn your pump on leaving you to throw a paddy on the forcourt.

Then when you run out riding to the next petrol station whose going to look stupid?

Him for keeping his job and following the policys of the company he works for?

You I think for being so stuck up your behind you cant understand why they might want you to remove your hat.

Because he could just as easily be stealing petrol - the point remains the same! Stop being so ridiculous and take your helmet off!

no, it is competely different.

a bike has a registration plate. forecourts have cctv. you steal petrol you are probably going to be on cctv with the bike, which has a registration plate. i would use that rather than rying to match a face to a database.

you dont bring a car into the bank.

edit- for the record i take my helmet off when asked. it irks me becuase i have to then carry it in one hand while juggling cards, gloves, earplugs etc in the other. i wold also rather no risk dropping the damn thing in the kerfuffle.

Yes helmet off is a pain & a waste of my time. Fortunately the only garages I use these days at the ones you pay at the pump by card so I dont even have to get off my bike.

Stolen bike, fake number plates, armed robbery...

Most places it's all head gear that covers the face. be it lids, hoodies or balaclavas.

Garages are target a lot for robberies.

Can you explain how it's courtious ?, i dont understand

And how exactly does this information tell us who stole the petrol?

How would a ****** image from cctv footage help?

As has been stated earlier, almost all of the people who nick off never get caught and at least 50% or more are going to be car drivers, of which im sure most were not wearing helmets

Petrol stations are the 3rd most likely business to get robbed , drive aways are pretty common this all puts up the price of fuel.

The staff in those stations have to deal with people they can not see, sometimes at night of course the cameras might see your bike but they cannot know it is your bike and you have not just stolen it or have false plates on it.

Is it really that unreasonible a request ? oh and it is hardly a new thing signs at stations asking people to take there helmets off have been around as long as I can remember.

If a bank or post office has a similar sign I am sure you would see there point.

Can you please stop catergorising people who work in petrol stations like this, I work there because I need to pay my way through Uni. Starting to annoy me you referring to all forecore staff as "spotty teenagers".

Not everybody is there as a career.

because it is your job as a customer to make sure that the till attendant has the most pleasurable time at work as is possible ;)

Certainly not the case lol, anybody who's nice to me I'm nice back otherwise if you're rude to me you will get crap service.

It's not hard for just 1 please and 1 thankyou.

surely the aim is deterrant rather than catching a thief. i dont see how helmet removal stops someone stealing the petrol.

the petrol station wont get its fuel back if the thief is caught.

as already stated, car drivers dont have helmets but they still steal petrol and their tanks can hold a lot more than petrol too.

people who steal bikes are not dumb. they will pay for the petrol (£15) and not risk raising suspicion.

i would also suggest that the risk of petrol theft is much higher with cars than with bikes.

my hornet fills up on about £15 of fuel. my little hatchback at arond £50. given the nmber of cars vs bike as well as the fact that cars will hold more fuel, the car drivers are probably more culpable han bike riders.
