Living in University Halls

advice

Everything that i would say in reply to this has already been said, but....

Just remember one thing, no matter how daunting it may be for you, it is a big learning curve. You cannot live at home with parents for the rest of your life, so step up, be a man, have an amazing time and most of all, look after yourself.

If you miss home a lot, just remember, not long after uni, you will be living without your parents for around 40 years :)

I loved halls, even though the rooms and facilities are usually awful, living with mates and around a mass amount of students, all their to have a good time, can't beat it.

I feel a bit sorry for those who aren't moving out of their parents house for university. You'll have to sneak girls in, pretend you're not drunk when you come in and not be that free to do what you want....

ARGHHHHHHHH

the uni said my grades are too good for the foundation degree i put as a firm, they are going to check whether i can be accepted on my insurance, computer forensics bsc.

they are going to phone me back to let me know if i can be on that course.

arghhhhhhhhhh

nerves, aniticipation, anxious-ness.

aww crap, im in grave danger, the guy has to speak to his "superior" to see if that is ok.

in or out, he decides. ill post back in due course.

Can you actually be rejected for having grades that are too good? Also, what is a foundation degree all about?

foundation degree (HND) can be a stepping stone to a full degree if you didnt get good enough grades to get straight on a full degree.

yes you can get turned down, because i just have been :)

obviously if for some reason i cant do comp forensics i will of been turned down for having too high of grades for the foundation degree and too low grades for the comp forensics :P

lol.. worst case scenario.

also i was rejected for a comp science foundation degree from newcastle uni because my gcse were too good and its a course designed for international student, basically because i wasnt foreign i think :)

Ive never heard of a university rejecting you because your grades were too good. There must be some other reason, I cant believe they would do that.

they said on the phone i cant do that course because my grades are too high.

i will be offered alternative full degree courses though if i accept.

ive told them which one, they are checking if its alright. waiting for the call

Neither had I till results day. One of my mates got AABB (i think) but was rejected by his first choice only to find out that people with lower grades had been accepted. Apparently they are really picky about wanting students to take a year out before starting Uni

Thats also strange. My uni and most others love gap year students, and make them better offers because they are a year older, and know what they want to do.

I haven't had time to read through this whole thread so somebody may have already brought this up but;

Has anybody had any experience with playing XBOX 360 online using university hall ethernet?

If so, how does it work?

Probably won't work - the Uni networks (mine, at least) used proxy servers etc to limit what you can do. HTTP and FTP works, everything is pretty-much doesn't. Line latency would be extremely high too, I'd imagine.

There are always ways to get around it, you just have to be a little engenious with what you do. If all else fails there is no harm in going to the admin and asking them to open up the 360 ports
