Living in University Halls

When planning to go out I like to consider my stubble cycle so that I can shave the day before and have a good amount. It helps. :o

I'm paying £133 a week for a 51 week contract. £250 deposit and £250 to cover all bills for the entire year.

If my maths is right that means you're paying £7033 for the year. One of the reasons I didn't bother to apply to anywhere in London. (I know there not all that expensive, but still moreso than pretty much elsewhere in the country.)

Personally, I'd never consider going to university in London. I don't like the place to begin with, from my own experience most of the university students are foreign and as such I would probably have very little in common with them. Combine that with the simply extortionate fees and living costs; it means I'm looking elsewhere :p

It is a lot of money (cheaper than my school fees though) but it wasn't a hard decision when deciding to go to London. My goal, since high school, was to be in the heart of London and as long as you can handle the money side of things, it is fantastic.

Im paying what will work out at ABOUT £2500 for my year's accomodation in my halls. Considering they are a fair size room, WITH en-suite, 3 mins from the student union, 3 mins from my lecture halls and 5 minute walk to a train station where there are regular trains for a 10 minute train journey into Cardiff, I think i've done pretty well for myself :D

£133 a week is absolutely insane. How you can justify almost £20 per day for student digs is truly beyond me.

I pay £57.50 per week for my share of our 6 bedroom house in Hyde Park, Leeds.

But Leeds is up north and is cheap, you can't really compare it.

What it makes it THAT much better than being in the heart of Manchester, Birmingham or any other number of equally nice UK cities for a fraction of the cost?

Have you been to all the 3 places you mention? If so I don't think you'd be making that post. I've stayed in Manchester and Birmingham quite a bit as my close friends go to uni there and whilst it is nice, it just doesn't have the buzz a city like London has. They are nice cities, but not equal to London.

But like you said, you need money to live well in London. Being a student, not many are in the sasme situation as you and could not sustain the life style you are accustomed to, living in other cities at 50% of the rent cost will free up a lot of money for other things. Not to mention many other things will be cheaper as well.

I understand cost is important and you can rent around £90-100 but my main criteria was finding a decent location and a nice flat, cost being 3rd in the list. As for saying not many students are in the same position, I find that not to be the case. When you socialise with people from the same and surrounding unis, you find that people are in the same situation as you.

I'm guessing Glamorgan!

Trust me, you won't mind living 15 mins walk away as long as you don't have to climb that bloody hill for the 100th time that year and no, it doesn't get easier as time moves on.

If you have my room (J43) you earn yourself a free pint at the union. The same flat and I will give you 20p x 2 for a spin dry.

"Why the hell are they so fat even if they climb that hill everyday"

You will know what I mean when you get there

LOL, there are a few fatties (is that even PC ? ) There are also a lot of fitties, He's in E11, I was in E73.

That hill is nothing, at least if you live in E block, thats minus that flight of stairs already. :) Besides, that little slope is nothing compared to a actual hill my mates live on in Brighton.

Come to Cardiff then. I've lived in London and I much prefer Cardiff. Less crap, more fun and a slightly lower chance of getting stabbed. :D

The first thing my dad said when he came to visit was "I can't believe how many fat girls are walking around"

My flat mates all nodded.

Looking foward to going back then? (if you are). I can't wait, lots of fresher girls and lots of house parties are in order.

Must have, I can tell you I had quite a few come on to me"

Fatty "Can you help me find my friend"
(I laugh)
Me "I don't know what she looks like"
Fatty "I know"

*I then get dragged away to the bar by a concerned mate*

I have nothing against the larger uni students, I just wish they wouldn't keep trying to come onto me.
