Living in University Halls

If you have my room (J43) you earn yourself a free pint at the union. The same flat and I will give you 20p x 2 for a spin dry.

I lived in J block although when I was there J4 and 5 were full of girls.

My accom landlady phoned me today to say there moving peeps about and would i like to go to a more old persons block or stay where i am, The only problem is that there are now 4 girls in my flat and me! All about 17-18 apart from me.

I said i dont mind, i stay and look after them. :)

I'm guessing Glamorgan!

Trust me, you won't mind living 15 mins walk away as long as you don't have to climb that bloody hill for the 100th time that year and no, it doesn't get easier as time moves on.

If you have my room (J43) you earn yourself a free pint at the union. The same flat and I will give you 20p x 2 for a spin dry.

"Why the hell are they so fat even if they climb that hill everyday"

You will know what I mean when you get there

Pfft i live in Brecon - middle of the mountains :p The Union to E block is absolutely nothing, hell, for me it's practically downhill! :D

I got a different room... can you buy me a pint anyway ;)

Here is a sort of a pic down the hill

Still, well over twice what I pay is ludicrous. Maybe creeping upto twice what I pay could be reasonable, but not that.

I find it reasonable for what I am getting. Leeds was my second choice of university, no way would I pay over £100 a week to live there. It just depends on where you are and whats the appropriate rate. Property prices in central London are crazy compared to what you get elsewhere, but it's all about the experience and buzz.

Not to be disrepectful Gurdas, from what you are saying your experience of uni is more about the actual life in the capital than actual life in uni. The core of the experience of university is different to the experience to its location. Even thou that is a part of it. What make or break an university experience is the people who you meet. Going to london does give you options in terms of ways of socialising, but it would be unrealistic to expect everyone can afford the life style you live as a lot of things in london cost money, i know, i lived there for 2 months and have friends who work and lives there.

The buzz you speak of is subjective to everyone, and that buzz could be anything, and it doesn't have to be London to offer that buzz.

I'm going shopping on Thursday for a few bits and pieces. I'm hoping I won't forget anything too major. The main things are jumpers and hoodies as I expect halls to be ****ing freezing.

Anything past students wish they'd bought before they went and didn't?

condoms?

seriously, anything you wear at home is fine. You might need a coat thou, but you can always pick it up when you come home at Christmas.

p.s. Halls are not cold, with all these people in there, small rooms, it's very cosy.

Halls might not be I suppose, but walking around the campus might well be ;)

TBH I'm more annoyed at having to waste money on fancy dress crud.

No disprespect taken and I agree with everything you are saying.

For me personally though, the uni experience with the friends etc. was only part of it, the other part was the location. This previous year has been fantastic in terms of where I am situated, the friends I have made and the contributions I have made in various events. I'm not expecting everyone to have the same lifestyle as me, no where in this thread have I stated that, i'm merely sharing views of my experience.

Buzz for me is being somewhere that is exciting and doesn't sleep. I enjoy the contrast I have in my life of having the quiet, isolated village at home and then a lively, busy city for the rest of it.
