Living in University Halls

Halls might not be I suppose, but walking around the campus might well be ;)

TBH I'm more annoyed at having to waste money on fancy dress crud.

Hah! Buying fancy dress thats a laugh. I didnt once buy into any of that stuff. Infact, on the rare occasions there were such events 5 minutes before I would whip round some mates and see the girls for some makeup. My 5 minute creations kicked the poop out of any of the bought carp :)

I'm going shopping on Thursday for a few bits and pieces. I'm hoping I won't forget anything too major. The main things are jumpers and hoodies as I expect halls to be ****ing freezing.

Anything past students wish they'd bought before they went and didn't?

Actually not, i had to keep my window open most of the time but then im not a lizzard and much prefere to be cold than hot. If your halls are close to any venues such as the union or other clubs there isnt much point anyway. Even if its freezing outside as soon as you get into the event your sweating away and wish you hadnt bought that extra jacket! The same can be applied anywhere, cue walking through the freezing snow in val d'isere after one heavy nights drinking  Come to think of it, i never did find that shirt again

Items its easy to forget:
  1. Ice cube tray for that refreshing post-alcohol glass of water.
  2. Pain killers for that morning after
  3. Pepto Bismal for that kebab you probably shouldnt have had

Seriously though i doubt there would be anything not in easy reach if you really need it badly. I'm used to sleeping in a double bed and moving to a single was quite hard. I did realise though that single duvets suck; use a light double duvet on a single bed and it is so much better :)

So how is it going then for anybody there with the net setup ?

im a tad on the fence... its good..but not as good as i thought....but its only day 2 and there is loads of stuff to do...

i got my room sorta sorted..

met 3of my neighbours they are cool... 2 more are apparently arriving so that will be good.

but hows it going for everyone else.

im just in and set up 3 of my mate from back home are here to so i know some people already, think were gonna go out for a few beers this evenin n get to know everyone. So far so good :D

Moving in on Weds because I'm going into my second year and we've got our own house now. Unfortunately my friend, housemate and landlord couldn't get the internet sorted before he headed off to china and now won't be back until the 24th. It will probably take at least a week to sort it out after he gets back so I won't have the internet for a while :( :p

dude what room u in you been out to the unioun yet ?????

One week today until I move in. My loan is still in the ether somewhere, I haven't had the confirmation letter yet, and I'll need to present that to the finance office before I get it (I think it's taking longer because my circumstances are a little off, this is my third course and therefore I'm not entitled to help with tuition fees, but I am entitled to the maintenance loan). I get a £500 welcome grant from Teesside which should help a little - but I'm starting to get worried about all the admin motions I know I'll have to go through as soon as I'm there.

just saw this thread and spent about 2 hours reading it, good read too :)

I'm off to london myself in 6 day's time, 92 quid a week, not to bad i guess.

I get my own fridge, i can cook "real" food, got all scrubs season 1-5 packed and ready to go.

Oh and I'm studying medicine, so the hospital is just round the corner in case I drink too much (which for me is anything more than 2 beers :S),

thanks for the advice guys :D

Moved in today at Stafford.
Been a hectic day. But just chilling out for a bit now.

Getting the internet running was fiddly, but it works nicely so far :D

Hear hear to that! Apparently you can't use multiple computers on your connection so expect a lot of Ethernet cables running out of the back of Stafford Court to different rooms for a gaming LAN :)

Yeh I can only use the one unless I pay extra for more Mac addres allowances.

I brought 2 rigs with me, my ps2, and a network switch. all useless :p

Will hopefully do a LAN at some point. Theres actually one on friay as part of freshers week :D

Well I started uni today (been living there 3 weeks) and so far the first day has been pretty bad. We got freshers week started last night and i was out till 6:30 drinking and felt really rough this morning (but hey thats what freshing week is about isn't it?). Spent 2 hours listening to some guy groan on about something and then we met people on our course and then left at around dinner. I have to go back at 5 to actually do the enrolement bit.

I'm a bit annoyed that everyone else has started back while I'm still sat at home doing really fun things like sorting out term time insurance policy cover, packing socks and moving MP3s onto my laptop.

lol, ditto, I've got a new laptop comming tommorow, and I've spent today putting a primer layer of paint on my bike racks roof, and mowing the lawn :\.
