250mb nice! but still a long way away from catching up to Japan with their 1gig speeds.

I'm still thinking of changing to Virgin, but not sure. I hear customer service is not existent and connection drops often??

But back to LOTRO, let’s hope this file they replacing will sort the issues out.

I've never had to deal with their customer service so I couldnt judge on that. I think in the last 2 years I have had maybe 3 outages of connection, none lasting more than 24 hours. Considering the speed I get for the rest of the time (I speedtest at between 48-50mb and I have no throttling so can download at full speed as much as I want), I can handle 3 days out of 730 without the internet :D

Ironically this is taking almost as long to install the redownloaded client as it did to download it again, nearly ready though :)
 
Might have spoken too soon....

Cant actually log in, just sticks on Retrying... then errors out with a 403 Forbidden error.

Is it actually up at the moment?

EDIT : my bad, just noticed the servers are down at the moment hehe.

1/what characters are the easiest to play
2/whats the best healers? (thinking groups)
3/whats the best solo class at end game
4/whats the best stealth, class an is it worth building them up,
5/whats the least played character (and why?


thanks to the people in the know any suggested Servers to a new guy starting tonight?
 
I don't play a huge amount and tend to solo a fair bit, but from what I've seen and in my opinion:

1/what characters are the easiest to play
None are enormously difficult but play style changes dramatically between them, Runies and Hunters seem level fastest.

2/whats the best healers? (thinking groups)
Minstrel

3/whats the best solo class at end game
Personally I don't think there's one class that's madly better than any other, Runies are like glass cannons, but then again Hunters kill reasonably fast too and are a tad tougher. Then you have the Wardens and Guardians which kill slowly but can survive far better.

4/whats the best stealth, class an is it worth building them up,
There only is one - Burglar, hard to level compared to the rest but they are great fun. Hunters have stealth, but can't move whilst hidden(camoflage only).

5/whats the least played character (and why?)
I don't play often enough to notice a least played class to be honest. I know I see slightly less Burglars and Loremasters now than I use to.

1) Most are easy to play really, though I find the Warden tougher than most to get my head around. Guardian and Hunter I would say are the 2 easiest to play in terms of mechanics.

2) Minstrels.

3) Ooh..thats a tough one, not much you'll do solo at "end game" really. Most of the classes can solo well but much of the time you'll be grouped at endgame anyway.

4)The only proper "stealth" class is the Burglar. Never had one as I spent a decade playing stealthers in MMOs and swore I wouldnt again :)

5) Minstrels probably...that usual MMO thing that so few people want to be the healer.

In terms of server choice, there is the new server Withywindle, where there will be no higher levels and the low level areas will be absolutely heaving (whether thats necessarily good or bad is up to you though). Snowbourne is a high population normal server and Laurelin is a high population server with more lean towards RP

Hunter / Champion - you don't even have to think much just pew pew with ranged and be a DW meat grinder as champ.

Mincers are main healing class, but i prefer RK for stacked healing.

3/whats the best solo class at end game
I can easily solo end game content on my Champ no problem.

4/whats the best stealth, class an is it worth building them up
Burglar!¬!!!!!!!!!

5/whats the least played character (and why?)
Warden - Apparent confusing and out of the norm combat system (gambits) for some people it's a putoff. (piece of cake class imho)
 
Redownloading the client works, but obviously that might be time consuming for some. Mine is working fine since I downloaded mine again, though to be honest I probably needed to get a fresh client anyway its been ages since I last cleaned down my LOTRO client and got it afresh. Now was as good as time as any for that I suppose.
 
If any of you are stuck on the hash code error and participated in the preview client then you can bypass this error by copying the \browser folder from your preview client install to the full EU client install.

Exactly what I was thinking, just uninstalled and will download the new client and play at the end of the week, in no rush as I have other things to do ;)
