LOTRO free to play going ahead.

I've been enjoying my hunter, but if I continue to end game I'll probably need a less common class.

With the burglar, is it all about strafing around trying to get backstabs in? As I didn't fancy the thought of always moving about while spamming ability hotkeys.

You dont have to move to much as most tanks can hold the target still unless a hunter or minstrel steals agro. i find the main job for a burg isnt the damage, its to make the target weaker and to give a boost to the fellow with your fellowship manouver skills. Quite a few endgame fights have you needing to move constantly, such as the flame floor in HoC when u see the floor burning LEG IT! or you will be toast.

Hobbit Warden now, probably not the best class to use for a Warden, i suspect Elf and Man/Woman is your best bet, but i'm up for the challenge.

How good can a minstrel be if in the hands of someone who has MMORPG experience when grouping with just a noob hunter?

I might rethink rolling a captain if I can still keep my gf from dying as a minstrel...

Captains only get one direct heal though, and it's a heal over time. They get a lot of other abilities that keep groups alive, but direct healing isn't one of them. Just so you know that if you need to burst heal damage a minstrel is the only way to go.

I'd still look at captain though, they're almost specifically designed to enhance the other player in a two person group. They can buff their damage, hit points, power regen, how well they get affected by incoming healing, remove fear effects, res them in or out of battle, and generally make people adore you :)

Hobbit wardens are awesome, men clearly have the best racial traits for tanks (and arguably every class) with the strength of morale heal, however their passive +5% incomming healing is possibly even more significant. That said, seeing a hobbit stand toe to toe with the most fearsome foes that middle earth has to offer more than makes up for this.

I did write a class guide for LOTRO a few months back, I should really give it another edit and post it here.

I was leaning towards captain due to their seemingly similar role as a druid in WoW. Able to take hits, dish out hits, heal and buff, but just not do any of them amazingly well. As my gf is a complete noob, I think the versatility might come in handy.

If I went minstrel, I wouldn't be able to tank for her if she got in trouble, unless I understand the minstrel class incorrectly.

I forgot Last Stand too, that has saved my ass so many times it's not funny.

Edited - not escape from darkness, last stand.

Ah, I remember the days when my cappy could still summon people in the Ettens. I use to sneak into a castle on my own, using last stand & speed to get past all the guards, then hide on the balcony, sound my horn and summon the entire raid I was on right next to the final boss :).

Captain is a great class and brings so much to the table. The key with captains is that they can pretty much do everything without having to compromise. i.e they can provide steady dps, outstanding healing, and great buffs to the fellowship all at the same time. They also provide the safety net of 2 great panic buttons (in harms way/last stand) and have multiple in-combat rezes. They are a little boring to play solo but in a fellowship they really come to life.

If you play captain just get ready for countless tells and randoms yelling BUFF BUFF! my mate has a level 65 one but quit it to play a mninstrel because of people doing that. Little does he know minstrels get tells all the time for fellowship quests :p

I've read detailed guides on both the captain and hunter, and it looks like I should be able to manage ok, provided I never let my gf use the strength stance.

I'm still out on stances. I used strength almost exclusively up to about 50, now I find I have to stick to endurance or I burn through mana far too quickly.

Aha ! Got one at last

Hi Tomb, where do you get that UI from please, its great!

Are full UI conversions in yet? I know they were trialling the necessary code, but never heard if they went live.

Edit, nevermind, I see there's a forum for them on that site.
