LOTRO free to play going ahead.

Is the Free 2 Play model as bad as it sounds? the limitations on it sound quite nasty, mostly the 2 gold cap (which sounds like nothing) and the fact you have to buy quest packs.

You don't care? Yet you post a quote from an article and a picture representing the phrase 'nail in the coffin' indicating it will be the end of the game?

for some Lotro players they are acting like its the end !! it was merely for humour....

I've played the game since early beta, lifetime subscription and had 4+ yrs of great fun and basically no I dont care it's gone to Turbine. Why? well I play other things now, no detriment to Lotro as it's still a very polished game and I've no doubt it will carry on co-existing alongside other games of the genre.

Its not really all that limiting at all, friend of mine recently hit level 50 on his minstrel and hasnt paid a single penny, he has used the points he has gathered in conjunction with the special offers for areas and its not cost him anything, pretty good really.

I'm just expecting trouble with the transfer over of life subs. No matter how much they say they are working towards a smooth transition it's always a massive **** up with these sort of things :(

Ah, gotcha, cheers :) Was just concerned that basically the "free" part was false and you'd basically have to pay regardless, although the 2g limit on cash seems a bit nutty, I'd imagine skills at certain levels cost more than that to train.

To a new player 2g is actually quite a bit of money, however you can just spend some of your turbine points gained as you level and have the cap removed.

Busy doing all the Moria stuff at the mo', never played any of it as I quit the game before any expansions came out. Moria is really excellent, great story in the quests so far too and I like how they approached it. I really wish they did something with the downsides of the game though, such as housing which is not great, and the whole UI is still the worst UI I've had to deal with in an MMO.

I see what you mean about your friend now Tombstone, as I've been playing through Moria and already have a few hundred Turbine Points and not spent anything, so hopefully will have enough to get Mirkwood when I hit reached the level for that stuff.

Im finding moria to be a bit of a pain, you get a quest shows on ur mini map that its only a few hundred feet away, you head to it to only find the way blocked so you then need to figure out how to get there, usually means doubling back and heading in the wrong direction.

Aye, can see what you mean. I had a quest earlier that involved finding some mirrors. I got to one of them, or near it, as shown on my map and mini map but I couldn't see it. Ending up having to run in the complete opposite direction which had stairs going down, then back on myself and up another bunch of stairs and there it was. Guess it's the core problem with a badly designed 2d map and minimap in somewhere like Moria which has multiple levels.

I thought i'd give this a go for the first time since release. The download went quickly but now it's updating game data, 10,000 files at around 20-40 kps. :(
Will roll on Laurelin if people are still active.

Turn off the pando media booster - pmb.exe in your processes I think. It cripples your download speed, even though it's supposed to speed it up.

The g/f wants to have a go at this so I've downloaded the F2P client on her PC. If she wants to play properly with the expansions is it just the case of upgrading her account to pay monlthy, buy the expansions from the website(or buying Moria from play etc) and installing them?

Indeedly doodly.

Just a bit into level 39 now, starting off my discovery of the Misty Mountains. Not long 'til Moria, woooo!

For those who care, I've picked this up again due to Rift getting a bit stale for me. If anyone needs a Kinship invite I'm on most evenings for a few hours. Won't be on tonight until atleast 9. Add either Amdeal or Eldeal to your friend list as they are the characters I'm playing as at present.

Is anyone up for giving me a bit of a hand in the Trollshaws this weekend? Just a couple of Fellowship quests (kill spiders - lvl 39 Sigs, I think), and kill some Gaunt Lord that I haven't been able to find yet.

Once those are done, that's it out of the way. All welcome to join me trekking the Misty Mountains afterwards, of course!
