LOTRO free to play going ahead.

I did post this on another thread about LOTRO. but i see that this is more on the lines of the preview.....

I really enjoyed it, maybe because they allowed you to jump up to lvl65 in 5min , I played a Warden and a Rune Keeper, Warden is great, might have to start me one of these!

PVP was fun! Looking forward to doing that again.

Starting areas have changed a bit which gives the game a nice start, especially to the new people who have never played LOTRO.

Nice to see directx 11 been added, didn’t make a huge difference, but water buildings and a few others things, looking really, sharp and crisp!

LOTRO Store was very easy to use and upgrading was very quick and instant. Even though they didn’t have everything activated.

What I would have liked to have seen is a upgrade to the Auction House and a dungeon tool similar to Warcraft. Even a tool to get a fellowships together.
Once you reach lvl 40 there are so many more fellowship quests you have to do and trying to get one together is a nightmare. Unless you in a good Kinship and you have higher levels helping you out.


Any other thoughts?
 
I know PvP isn't the purpose of LoTRO, but if anyone has participated in Monster Play, can you share your experiences?
 
does LOTR f2p game have any PvP ?
really need to clue up on this game downloaded logged in an logged out as didnt have time to play :(
 
There is no direct PvP as such, instead Lotro uses a Monster player (PvMp) system that allows your level 40 or greater freep (free peoples) fight against a level 65 Monster.

The fighting takes place in an area called the Ettenmoors and is based around CTF basically although your aim is to capture the 5 keeps with one main keep in the middle.

PvMp uses a rating and ranking system that is totally seperate to any other ranking system in the game, to rank up you have to gain infamy or reknown, to gain this you have to kill or damage an opposing player and as well as gaining infamy / reknown you also gain destiny points which tie-in with ingame DP.

It's good fun especially when you have a couple of raids going at it away from Tol or South Bridge, but it's also very annoying and frustrating when you get ganked by a warg at the graveyard (respawn point) or your main settlement (Glen Vraig)

I'm a lifetime subscriber, was just curious whether PvP was decent and people actually bothered being a Monster.

Your a lifetimer and have never been to the moors? I am one of those nutters that ONLY plays monsters now, I did have Freeps but bored of them, and because of the lifetime i don't feel obliged to utilise the whole game.

Bought the lifetime sub before the holidays, and i'm not at the required level to participate in PvMP.
 
On my server (began with G) it seemed desolate.

Playing a monster character was just as quest grinding as the regular game, to get enough destiny points to buy skill and traits. The only time I saw freeps they were level 65 and so well geared up I wasn't doing any damage as an archer. So forced to do quest grinding for destiny points.

Yeah that was my experience in the little I played PvMP, aside from the stealth classes who went about in small groups picking on lone people it just came down to how many people you could get, it seemed like winning was 80% numbers 5% skill & 15% not having low level people (though thats my opinion on most 'open world' PvP where numbers arnt set).

As Bane said, unless you were max level, it was incredibly tough, think I only spotted two freeps bellow the 60 (when it was the cap) and as a monster player, while being a lower rank wasnt as bad as not being max level, it still made it tough. As an archer I got a few kills but as a melee based one, it was useless unless you have ranked up.

Sure it would be great on a busier server but at the time I played it on the Laurelin it was pretty pants.
 
Well, I've been trying to patch the client for the past half hour, and it keeps failing.

Havent tried mine yet, been getting my UI sorted. Will try mine now.

EDIT : Mine is just sitting on examining programs, though I notice that the forums are down too, guess its not up and ready yet.

Spoke to a few kinnies on Evernight and they are patching Ok, just wait til 5pm when the patch server falls over like last night.

Hopefully CM will have learned from Lorien patch and what a ***** up that was!

You seriously should come to Evernight if you want decent PvMp as we usually have some decent raids most nights if we can tempt creeps from Tol.

But then I'd miss all the RP from Laurelin !

Mine's still just sitting on Examining Programs. I'll restart it and see if it starts updating.
 
Ah wait no...just as I was about to restart it, its stopped and says :

An Update Error occurred :

There was an error generating the hash code for a patch file.

Starting again now
 
True - Evernight has a lot of RP playyers but they talk in l33t speak and are 15 years old.
