LOTRO free to play going ahead.

Finally downloaded and installed at 6.30am this morning before work, why they are using Pando is a complete mystery because it has failed over in the US and has failed here already after one day.

Honvik was it you who posted the preview events on the CM forum?

Tempted to try this again sometime. I played for a bit before, but got annoyed with the stupid radiance capping system. I don't believe I should have to grind a dungeon again and again to get armor in order to progress; just goes against my principles :/

What's the game like now? Any further than Lorien?

Radiance is being removed from the game in 2011 due to immense pressure from players.

Lorien has been and gone, we are now in Mirkwood and soon to be Enedwaith.

Early 2011 we get an expansion with Isenguard :)

I shouldn't have any issues if I'm installing from a retail purchased dvd right? Just update and that is that?

If you are wanting to do the f2p beta then its a seperate client, but if you are installing the game so that you are ready when f2p goes live then you wont have any troubles, just install off your dvd, patch up to date and then when the f2p goes live it will patch up to the f2p client and off you go.

Yes that was me posting events there is only one honvik :)

Pando isnt the best but it basically exactly like any Torrent downloader to get max download speed you need to limit your upload especially if your like me on Virgin Media (download throttling) so I recommend installing pando then go to control panel >>> then click Pando then set upload to max 5-50 KPS this will increase your download speed significantly after you reboot the download again.

The idea of this preview is to stress test the downloading of the cilent function, test the store, test the server to work out what needs to be added etc. As a reward for 'logging in' you gain 500 points once it fully goes live as a reward for helping out (500 points = around £5!) a typical content package unlock costs around 595 points

Those who are downloading the trial once F2P goes live your client will automatically update to F2P upon full release.

Its best to start as the same race (or atleast dwarf & elf or man & hobbit) but you don't need to, once you've done the starter quests (level 5-6 i think) and get into the world proper, you can get insta travel between bree/shire/thorinshall/elf startingplace which puts you within 5mins of all the starting areas.

You can also run between them if you don't want to waste the money, as long as you stick to the roads and be a bit careful between the shire and bree you'll be okay.

I'm also pretty sure you can do most, if not all the epic prologue(?) quests that are separate for the different races until they merge around level 15-20.

The prologues are specific to each race, they merge at the beginning of book 1. As far as I'm aware, you can't do the prologue of another race.

Im sure I remember doing some of the epic human quests as my dwarf, while leveling up. I remember it seeming weird at the time, maybe it was a bug or something.

EDIT: typical do a search and this thread comes up first, I must wrong/they've changed it.

EDIT 2: You can! The racial level 5 -15 prologue quests can be done by any race, http://community.codemasters.com/fo...ssion-424/195532-elf-human-epic-questing.html its just the locked in starter areas ones that take you up to level 5 (takes 20-60mins) that you cant do.

Can I trust anyone here to log into the beta client with my details so I can get my 500 points? I'm not downloading 13GB just to log once before it goes live.

I've registered for the test, but have my patched retail copy ready for the launch itself.
