So if the supply of the V6 is limited, does that suggest that the only way to get this car with a manual gearbox might be to order new?

My phone call with Lotus suggested the V6 was not limited and would continue to be produced alongside the AMG powerplant as I was hoping V6 was gonna phase out as that would certainly bolster the value of first edition cars which all come with the V6 powerplant and the AMG unit will come around three months later.

P.S. You live once! Deposit placed! :D

When you say "Lotus" do you mean the dealer or Lotus HQ? Two very different things, and it's important not to confuse. Other sources say the V6 will be dropped, and it's possible the dealer doesnt have full information either.

@Gibbo appreciate your advice here. Why are you going with the manual over the auto?

I want the V6, and the automatic it comes with is kind of old school, but lets not be too hasty because some old automatics with updated and tweaked software can actually be pretty impressive, my SVR had the ZF8 and though thats not old but for me the ZF8 is as good as any DCT in the SVR but has the advantages of be a torque converter. But if they have not tweaked it or can't tweak it well that automatic is not known for been that great, whereas a manual never ages and the manuals in the latest Lotus seem to have overcome the issues they used to have with selector cables etc.

The 4 pot will get AMG's DCT, which from reviews seems vastly improved on earlier versions but whether its as good as BMW/FERRARI DCT or PDK is still out.

I will see if Lotus will let me take out an Evora automatic and manual as I feel that will give anyone a great information as the Emira uses the exact same engine/drivetrain on First edition cars.

Well done guys, I'm pretty jealous. Maybe one day I can trade up the Elise. I have been looking at the Evora for a while but bailed due to how expensive they still are.

In terms of depreciation, I bought 2x Elise brand new, the first one lost around £4k in 4 years, the second, which was much more expensive, has lost around £10k in 4 years, but is actually now going up in value... I think if you sell quite quick, you will lose money, if you keep it for a while they typically don't depreciate very fast. In fact, I think the Elise was lowest depreciating car in UK for a while, but the Emira is something a bit different and I think volume aspirations are clearly higher...

Another vote for the black roof, just preference but I think it brings out the lines nicely.

Interesting the V6 will run alongside. It would also be my powertrain of choice for the car, it sounds great and is well-proven as well as just a preference for the response of supercharging over turbo any day..!

Sorry dealership, Oakmere in Cheshire but having been there before I do know they are extremely good and highly recommended, even recommended by competing dealerships, but granted unless it comes from the horses mouth so to speak who knows, I certainly hope you are correct as if the V6 is dropped I feel those First edition cars will hold values very well indeed.

The auto in the Exige with the same V6 is pretty good I think despite being an old style one. You don't get an annoying delay when downshifting like on a lot of autos, it just does it.

Good information, it was a dealership telling me V6 will run alongside, my deposit is in now anyway so as the weeks and months pass I am sure more clarity will come. If I do go ahead I also want to enquire about custom paint as my favourite Lotus colour is the orange some of them come in, so would be trying to get that on the basis it don't cost another 50k lol.

I think Lotus are thinking bigger for sure, but bigger as more worldwide so UK numbers will be more but then at the same time this Emira is gonna have a far shorter lifespan than the Elise/Exige/Evora had because after 2030 they won't be allowed to make any more, maybe sooner?

Thats good to know, as I put in previous post, gonna see if they will let me take out an Evora automatic and manual before deciding. :)

Thanks Gibbo. I'm a big fan of autos so might go with the V6 auto. V6 mainly for the sound more than anything else.

Gotta get what you want mate, its you driving it. My plan is to test drive an Evora with both transmissions before deciding. :)
I am also thinking future values also and typically manuals maintain value better. I am still not 100% sure as my plan was to buy a GT3 RS in the next year or two and this kind of throws a spanner in the works. :D

I wouldn't bank on the 400 V6 being the only one, it will come in hotter forms further down the line like the current 430 Cup etc. and actually if you look closely at the infotainment in the launch videos/pictures there is mention of 480hp which is about where the current V6 maxes out.

So the decision is Lotus Emira V6 Auto or 718 GTS 4.0 PDK

A great position to be in, but not one I'd like to make, on looks its an easy win to Lotus, but Lotus have got to get the Emira spot on to drive like a 718 GTS and that is not easy but Lotus are very good so you can bet it will be close or as good and the looks would do it for me, hence why I've put a deposit in as though I do like the Porsche, the only Porsche for me is a GT3.......

I've had my dreams set on adding an ultra violet 991.1 GT3 RS as just love the looks or maybe a lava orange, but then I think would I prefer driving the 991.2 GT3 manual, but I think when it comes to a special car you have got to go with the one that was your dream and for me that was always the 991.1 GT3 RS, think its the best looking GT car Porsche have made full stop and I prefer the looks over the 991.2 GT3 RS and even more so over 992 GT3.

The stock Emira will be miles from a GT3. I think it's more of a prettier Alpine A110 at this point, and we'll get the hot version a couple years in. The Evora auto is not great, it's one of the only automatics in probably the last decade which is actually slower than the manual!

Lotus looks better, more sporty and modern. Porsche possibly built better?

Will equipment levels be the same?

What's faster, cheaper to run etc?

Genuinely tough decision!

Lotus definitely cheaper to service. No Porsche tax and Toyota parts :p

Weirdly insurance is usually cheap as well. My Elise only cost me £260.
