Not sure where you're based, but perhaps a chat with a dealer may help, they sometimes more info on this and may not be able to be specific, but could help set your expectations on how much to budget. I bought my last 2 from Lotus Silverstone, I can recommend them highly.
Personally, the Lotus will be much more special than any Porsche, just in terms of exclusivity, but I also think it will likely be more of an event to drive and be more special. Depends what you're after. Hopefully test drives are not forever away, since that's what sold me on a Lotus over all else; the way it drives. Can't be expressed on spec sheets.
EDIT: On the V6 - it's limited by gearbox from what I understand, so I can imagine a lightly breathed on AMG motor will be more powerful pretty soon, potentially lighter too? However, turbo is not as good as supercharged, right! Lotus have done amazing things with that V6. Maybe they can do the same with the 4-pot too. I bet both versions will be great, although the V6 probably won't last the duration of the car run due to emissions and other limitations, that's my thinking.
They rang me after I hit reply, speaking to Oakmere in Cheshire as highly recommended by some of the guys from OPC Wilmslow.
V6 only comes with manual and Lotus automatic not so great gearbox.
Much as it appeals, for me it will be something I look at in a few years. Although I said £60k is more affordable, it doesn't mean I'd be willing to order one right away; I think I'd be more comfortable buying it second hand.
That didn't stop me perusing the website, so I can answer this at least
As I understand it, you pay £2K deposit for a build slot. If you go ahead and order, that money comes off the price. If you don't, you get the money back.
I stopped reading there and closed the window before I ended up doing something silly that I couldn't afford
Oakmere confirmed the 2k gets you in the queue and they will then contact you for the correct deposit amount less the 2k you already paid.
I'm not sure about the black roof, but I'm sat at the deposit stage with my bank card out. I've picked yellow with the silver alloys.
Have they said when the deliveries are likely to take place?
I like black roof as it gives the car a much lower roofline look, but its personal preference.
First edition cars will be delivered May 2022 onwards.
Deposit will come off the price if you order, or refund if you don't. I did passenger an Evora 410 once and the engine is indeed epic, shame they didn't launch it in 430 trim. It sounds to me that the first cars off the line will be the V6 and the rumour has always been that they're basically using up the stock they have and won't be getting more from Toyota in the future. So yeah I expect the Cup / R / GT4 / Whatever they call it to be the 4 pot turned up to 11. The V6 is actually pretty maxed out already, I think you can get it near 470/480 but with a lot of mods but the M139 will come in 440hp from Merc ready to go, then probably hybrid on top aswell.
I asked for more details hoping what you say is true that First Edition would be using up V6 and then no more V6 and hence values holding/exploding.
Lotus informed me first edition cars will be V6 only, then the AMG powerplant will come around three months later but both engines shall run alongside each other for the future and they said no plans on going AMG only powerplant. The V6 unit sounds glorious both inside and outside the cabin, the 4 pot AMG unit sounds crap in comparison, just a pop and banging nuisance, but no complaints about its power delivery but I will happily take a slower car simply for soundtrack, proven by taking a 458 over a 488, Mclaren etc.
Also he confirmed engine horsepower, the AMG unit is 360HP and the V6 is 400HP. AMG powered cars will typically be around 62-66k with options and the V6 cars will be around 75k.
I am 50/50 about dropping a deposit, think I shall do it as delivery is a year away and its refundable so plenty of time to think it over. I'd be going V6 manual as per my spec above.
Question is having never explored Lotus before, do their new car values get hammered the moment you take delivery or are they good at holding value?
All I saw was '2022'. I would expect it to be more than a year but hard to say.
If you're serious, I would go for it. My experience of ordering from Lotus (not on a 'reservation') has been that they can be very flexible up until point of build, you can even customise your car if you ask about it, so I would go for a spec and expect you can probably tweak it later.
First Edition cars from May 2022 for those early in the queue, he did say the Lotus website has already taken a large amount of deposits and those who want to wait until they have test driven a car before upping their deposit will be looking around Autumn 2022.
