Louis Van Gone / Jose Mourinho set to be announced as Man Utd manager this week - BBC

While thats true - that doesnt sound like something Woodward would do to me (although I will be mighty happy if Im wrong)

We'll see. While it seems odd to sack someone having just won a trophy, you've only got to think back to more or less any point in this entire season to see why it shouldn't matter.

If we keep LvG for another season, it'll be Giggs after, and we'll be stuffed for years. I think the fact Mourinho is available now will force it one way or another.

Look at Arsenal, won a couple of FA Cups, nobody even mentions it in defence of Wenger.

Jose Mourinho will be appointed manager of Manchester United this week

Telegraph going in big with this story:

Jose Mourinho will be appointed manager of Manchester United this week in place of Louis van Gaal, who will not see out the final year of his contract at the club despite Saturday's dramatic extra-time FA Cup win over Crystal Palace.

The agreement was reached at the end of last week and the announcement will come in the next few days. It has been Mourinho’s wish since the initial approach from United that he is given the whole summer to plan for next season and his new club want to give him the maximum time to organise his squad and review the existing transfer targets and departures. The club have waited until the end of the season and kept talks extremely close but news emerged in Spain that a deal had been agreed. It was not clear whether Van Gaal was aware that the decision had been made before he went into the FA Cup final - until now he had been bullish about his position.

Get. In. :D

BBC too :D

Manchester United will appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager, BBC Sport understands.

Mourinho has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in December.

With United failing to qualify for the Champions League under Louis van Gaal, the Old Trafford hierarchy are thought to have decided a change is required.

It is understood a deal with Mourinho was agreed in principle before Saturday's FA Cup final victory against Crystal Palace.

I hope this blows up spectacularly. Reeks of desperation from both parties. Trouble is there probably isn't anyone better available and/or willing to leave their current job. You excited that Mourinho is coming or that LvG is leaving, Robbo?

Awful timing. I'd have at least let him have the weekend. Just because it didn't work out, I still respect the guy and he doesn't deserve it like this.

Equally, leaning towards the former, as it means no Giggs etc.

I've wanted Mourinho since SAF left, yes he's not perfect but he's one of the few people who can do this job. Even LvG has struggled horribly and he's no small personality.

Now I'm happy we've won the FA Cup, it's good for the players.

Flying to England on Tuesday to finalise the deal (says Jorge Mendes to Sky Sports).

Good way for LVG to bow out. But that's it. Club plan to tell him Monday & announce Mourinho new boss Tuesday.

Not hanging about!

JM will win the league with Man.U. easily now that he's automatically become the best manager in the game but he'll need to spend £1bn+. The trade off is that his brand of football will be really boring etc.etc...

Well at least LVG can go out on a sort of high. He can always say he won something (and not a bad competition to win to be fair).

Excited for Mourinho though.

Were Chelsea not really good to watch for the first half of the season last yr?

I don't welcome the appointment at all, especially if the likes of Martial and Rashford won't get a look in because of their age. They've shown their talent but still got a lot to prove, and that requires the right manager so hopefully Mourinho will get some "direction" in that regard. This is something that needs to be clear before his appointment.

You think Martial wouldn't get a look in because of his age?! Have you seen him play...

Wasn't this youth myth dispelled?

Most 'myths' have been dispelled to a degree. There aren't many managers of top clubs who pile in youth players all the time, you just can't do it and be successful at the same time, unless you have a bunch of really incredible players. It's not viable.

Yeah they were great.
As were the team he had in his first year at Chelsea and the RM he led to the La Ligue title ahead of the 'Best Team to Ever Play Football'
People only remember the failures of a winner though.

I think that RM team broke a few goalscoring records too.
