Luther.

All detective fiction follows at least some genre rules. Half the fun is working out the formula and where it's going. Come on. Luther has its charms.

Exactly. I've been binge re-watching the previous 4 seasons this week in anticipation for watching the new episodes tonight and Friday night with a friend. The formula is expected but still very good and dark. It's how the Luther character handles the role and the supporting DCIs and villains that make it what it is. Shows like this, Bosch, CSI Vegas etc all follow similar formulas but each one unique and entertaining because the characters are so good and you want to see how it pans out to the very end.

Decent romp but I wasn't moved by any of it. Particularly the man downed last night.

Ruth Wilson has significantly lost her mojo in the space of 8 years.

Enjoyed it overall, but it kind of lost me when

The doctor abducted a man in broad daylight and managed to string his body up, upside-down on a busy looking area along the river Thames

The killer was seemingly a sideline to a bad EastEnders plot line that really fell flat with me. It was a bit boring and not great use of the few episodes we got. Needs an episode of two to deal with the aftermath and introduce the next case imo.

It didn't really add anything to the episode either. The series started promisingly but somehow all managed to feel a bit unfocused and unfinished - maybe lots got lost on the cutting room floor so to speak but previously it has seemed a bit more coherent. I still enjoyed it but think there was more potential for the storyline than was realised.

The killer felt more like a side story as soon as ep1 ended especially with how rushed they get through it in the final episode.

Was decent, wonder if they'll make more episodes or a film now especially with Idris getting more movie roles.

Apparently the film is in the middle of being written by the same guy that writes the series (his name has totally gone from my head).

In Luther: The Fallen Sun — an epic continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film — a gruesome serial killer is terrorizing London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary. The film also stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk.
