M5 SMG Transmission

Like I said, it says repossession so people don't think it was involved in a crash as all other cars on his site are crash damaged.

Yea, because 'Finance Repo' is a better way of saying this than 'This was my personal car and is not a salvage vehicle'.

Like I said, it says repossession so people don't think it was involved in a crash as all other cars on his site are crash damaged.

But it's his own car isn't it? So why does that matter at all? People wouldn't expect him to only drive around in insurance write offs because he owns a salvage yard.

Why wouldn't he just advertise it as his own personal car (seeing as it is) rather than start waffling about a repo 2 years ago?

How do you suddenly know it was a repo 2 years ago when earlier this evening you didnt know about the reposession, then apparently a company went bust and they took some vans as well?

Thats an awfully clear picture of a reposession that happened 2 years ago!

Earlier this evening I didn't know about the repossession? Where did you get that from?

I knew about it before I went to see the car, when I saw the car and asked about the repossession he told me about the other 6 series and the vans and that they had them in storage for a bit to allow them time to buy it back and then he decided to keep the M5 for himself as his daily.

To be frank, it sounds like a bit too much of a gamble on a >25k car. You're either feeding us a load of rubbish as you don't know the answers, or you just want to believe that everything will be fine. That's fine if you're spending 2k on an old Mondeo, but honestly, do you want to buy a car like this without being 100% certain?

Do yourself a favour and either find an AUC one and know you've got a bit more comeback if there are any issues, or buy a one owner car from a private individual with extended warranty already in place. And... given you're spending so much, hold out for an LCI one.

I'm not feeding you rubbish, I'm telling you what I know.

Of course the perfect situation is a great condition one with BMW warranty and all the bells, but why miss the opportunity to investigate one with such a good spec for a really good price?

Like I've said, a full inspection is required before any decision is made. I appreciate the advice and concerns and I share them all but I don't see why I should miss out on a potential bargain over some suspicions which can be easily verified.

Why do you want a 'bargain'?

Why don't you want a 100% brilliant, immaculate example with cast iron history being sold by either a main dealer or a really nice chap who has owned it from new and will spend an hour telling you how much he enjoyed speccing the options before handing you the keys?

'Bargains' are good when you want a cheap Mondeo diesel. Not so when you want to buy a supercar.

At this level of car you should be past being so bothered about finding a bargain.

Did you really just ask that? Of course that situation would be lovely and still may happen, but why cast aside a potential bargain without knowing the full picture?

It doesn't matter what type of car you buy, you always want the best for your money. And if you can get a great buy for cheaper then why would you pass?

EDIT: @InvaderGIR - Am I turning into DannyW?! I can't see how it would through up major problems if it passes the BMW inspections which they use for their Used Approved?

Does the inspection then provide a warranty or just tell you that the car is currently (as in on day of inspection) fine?

If it's the latter, to be honest, buying blind and buying after inspection is essentially the same on such a complicated car.

Look, this thread is going round in circles.

I understand all your concerns and appreciate the advice, as I've said many times I know it is potentially too good to be true which is why I'm not buying it yet only after a successful inspection. Why keep saying it's a dog before anyone knows for sure?

I just wanted advice on how to get it inspected properly.

EDIT: LOL MrLOL :D
Inspection doesn't provide a full warranty they will put an extended warranty for me on it anyway.
@Fox about the E60 M5 reliability, that then applies to all in the used market.

The only warranty you want is the BMW Insured Warranty.

ANY other warranty is worthless on an M5.

btw, do you still do 110 miles a day for work?

If so, you realise an M5 is going to cost you £12,000 a year just in petrol to get to work and back?

Thats £16k of pre-tax salary just going on petrol!

With the M5's limited tank range you will be at the petrol station every other day

Warranty is a full BMW warranty with their full emergency service or something like that, I was on the phone with them this morning and they said that it is fine.

I do 110 a day but not in my car any more, I take my Dads as we both work in Milton Keynes. I only use mine on weekends now really.
