M5 SMG Transmission

You see that's the thing. You try too dig and dig and I answer your questions but you jump to huge conclusions without knowing the full picture.

All I asked for was advice on how to get it inspected yet you've already assumed it's a beat up dog which has been repossessed because the previous owner was so poor he treated it like a banger and it has been sitting in a salvage garage rotting away in shoddy condition.

I know there is risk, I am aware which is why I want it inspected, but after seeing the car, finding out it's history I am already more sure that it is a potentially good buy, and pending a good review from an inspection the car is a potential bargain.

The guy is in the motor trade, he knows what it's worth, thats why he bought it to resell. The only bargain will be the margin between what he paid and what he gets for it - he wont sell it for less than its really worth - don't mistake a car thats cheap or being offered cheap for a reason with a 'bargain'.

The screen would remain a big question mark for me. If it was cracked why hasn't it been replaced..

Why advertise a £28,000 car for sale with a cracked screen?

Why drop the price considerably on the same day you put the advert up?

Price wasn't dropped on the same day it was advertised, it was on his site at 28 (not sure how long) but when he put it on AT yesterday he lowered the price.

All reasonable questions, which is why I want to get it inspected first.

take a step back.

These are the questions anybody buying a 30k used supercar should be asking.

Make no mistake, at over 70k new, this is supercar territory. Unrestricted it will crack 200mph apparently, its part of a very exclusive club.

When buying this sort of car, you too should be asking questions, about why he's apparently been using it is a daily driver for months with no issues, but yet its had a cracked windscreen since it was in storage over the winter and its been reduced after being put up "yesterday"

C'mon, take off the rose tinted specs that can only see a bargain and put your suspicious hat on. Dealers are snakes, especially ones working at a salvage yard. They will do anything and say anything to get a sale. You're falling in love with the idea of owning this car and not being sensible.

The car was not in "storage" over winter, the price was not reduced on the day it was put up. He has been using it nearly 2 years as his daily, not months. Full service history, drove better than the BMW Used approved one. I believe his reasons for the low price.

Suspicious hat is on, all questions have been asked, still satisfied with answers and condition yet purchase is only pending a successful professional inspection.

wait. Hang on. Earlier in this thread you had

No idea on the specifics of the repossession.

So the car was repossessed over 2 years ago. ?

So its the bloke running the salvage yard that can't afford to fix the windscreen then ?

This just gets more confusing, why advertise it as a finance repo if.. well, it isnt one anymore is it? If the current owner has had it 2 years and bought it after the repo?!

Cannot understand why you'd put that in the advert? It's ancient history?

The only reason you are satisfied with the answers is because the guy has offered you a price you can afford and therefore the chance of owning a high spec M5 is clouding your judgement.

Yep. Not sure why he hasn't fixed it yet though.

He had it listed as a repossession on his salvage website as all the other cars on there are crash damaged. On AT it is just another normal advert by a guy selling his car, no mention of the repossession, I found the salvage advert after some googling.

because he bought it cheap at a salvage auction thinking he could afford to run it.

Now he's found out that business is slow and he can't.

So he's looking to off it cheap to free up some cash sharpish. Seriously, don't just walk away, run away as fast your little legs will carry you.

He's already falsely advertising it is a financial repossession. Its not. Its just his own personal car that he's been running on the cheap for 2 years.

There you go jumping to conclusions again.

OK that bit was my bad, I just couldn't be bothered with the 20 questions game.

I think the other guys are right, you've got an idea into your head and I don't think you want to be told otherwise, even though deep down you know it's a bad idea to buy an M5 from a salvage yard owner who can't afford (or doesn't want to afford) to replace a broken windscreen.

Like I said, it says repossession so people don't think it was involved in a crash as all other cars on his site are crash damaged.

Which is why I want to get it inspected first. I have the same suspicions you guys do, after seeing and driving the car my mind was appeased quite a bit, but I'm not going to do anything pending an inspection.
