**Mafia 2 Benchmark thread**

No AA, PhysX Off, rest max

my 4870 doesn't like doing AA in this game, I get 29-30 with it on :/... I can only really see a difference on things that are really close to the character with it on though.

Just a comment with regards to debris and the need for Physx, have any of you played Flatout: Ultimate Carnage because that has persistent debris without the need for Physx or a hit in performance. I'm just wondering why Mafia II is seen as needing mental hardware specs to do something that Flatout did quite a while ago on most systems.

Genuine question and not a flame bait.

They got paid by Nvidia developers.

With a 2gb 470gtx on an overclocked Q6600 @ 3.60 I get about 62fps with physx off, with it on high I get about 18 :/

Seems even with physx off ATI cards are getting better results though O_o

Mafia 2 physx is well screwed up, deliberately or not I don't know, some sections in game I can be doing 100 FPS with 90% GPU usage, walk away and back to the same section GPU usage has dropped to 30% and it's below 30 FPS, looks to me like the developers are either trying to screw the consumer over with artificial demanding performance or it is genuinely fubar.

Could be zoning incorrectly - when you were first in the area the physics objects had settled and gone to sleep, but when you return they re-run simulation all at the same time.

Nah, it can happen in sections where all the NCP's are with the dynamic clothes, them physx are never sleeping, could be looking at the ground and FPS would be under 30, other times GPU usage is way up and FPS 100+.

there aren't any 2GB GTX 470's, never will be

plus I get 43fps with PhysX on high with my 470 so you must be doing something wrong, have you installed the 513 PhysX drivers yet?

Its a bit of a joke with SLI unless you have a GPU dedicated to PhysX as well.

With 2x GTX260 in SLI for instance I get 30-40fps (all settings including PhysX max) in the opening building in SLI mode and its not smooth at all. If I dedicate one GPU to PhysX and one to rendering I get 60+fps solid and its fairly smooth.

I do like the car handling in arcade mode tho... old fashioned enough to be fun but arcadey enough that its not a pain to drive... unlike the on foot mode which is fairly clunky :( oh and doing doughnuts in a car with PhysX smoke is kinda funny in the wrong ways.

Yep, still busted on my hybrid setup. Might work for vanilla Nvidia setups but not hybrid.

That's why I;m so interested in anybody else with a hybrid setup.

This game uses CUDA for PhysX. IIRC, the Hacked nVidia drivers don't enable CUDA, meaning that ATI/NV hybrid users won't get GPU PhysX in this game. It's the same as the GPU water in Just Cause 2 - it's done using CUDA, and therefore isn't available on hybrid setups.

Mafia 2 is a DX9 game for crying out load, it's not demanding at all, on high physx I expect my GPU to be doing 99% usage and not 20%, unless this changes for the official release I'm officially calling physx a scam by nVidia and the developers that implement it.

raven, how do i get my gpu usage to show in game like you have done??

I thought you already thought this? :p
