**Mafia 2 Benchmark thread**

You need MSI afterbuner http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm once installed head to settings/monitoring/active hardware monitoring graphs, from there check the GPU usage tab and highlight it, an option below will let you check a box to " show in on-screen display ".

thanks for that. im only running a gts 250 (9800gtx+) at the moment with physx on medium but il soon be getting a gtx480 and use the gts 250 as dedicated physx.

If you are sure it's working, any tips on how you did it please?

Ta

Yep, definitely working here, I did this:

1. Go to Mafia 2 folder in Steamapps folder and click on the Physx Software Setup exe in there without uninstalling it.
2. when it finishes uninstalling, click on it again to install.
3. Without restarting, install the PhysX-mod-1.04ff patch and it should be working again.
4, Test it with fluidmark.

Hope this helps.

Tommybhoy, any chance you could tell what NV driver your using and where the hell to get the 1.04ff patch plz?!? When i try to download it i just get some command line files but no actual patch in the rar!
(any tips on how to actually get it going would be cool too! hehe) Ive tried it myself but to no avail :(
Running win 7 64 bit with 10.04 cats if that helps.. Got a 8800GT with passive accelerro to use for it.

my minimums are 8fps with my single 470 and average is 43.1 so sli support obviously isn't very good with mafia II

Try (tho its a bit of a waste with the GTX470) with 1 card on PhysX and one on Rendering - you'd probably get better performance unfortunatly in this game with 1x 8800GT (PhysX) + 1x GTX470 (Rendering) than GTX470 SLI tho its not as apparent in the benchmark (only about 5% higher fps) than it is ingame playing (around 20% and smoother).

EDIT: Might not be true with the PhysX update thats just come out...

If you want ultimate performance with high physx but don't mind losing the NPC's physx clothes then do the file edit to remove phsyx clothes from all but the main character.

Results below with NPC physx clothes disabled, 100+ FPS in game

New beta drivers Friday apparently, I think sli should improve then, fingers crossed.

Top screen I have 1x GTX260 on PhysX and the other rendering - game is mostly smooth and often above 60fps with max settings at 1680x.

Bottom screen SLI is enabled, game jumps around from 20-60fps and is not smooth at all.

In the benchmark the difference between those configurations is only 4fps on average fps - but its noticeably smoother in the benchmark with one GPU dedicated to PhysX. I think I need an 8800GT or something in here so the SLI setup can do its stuff properly :D but that means sawing out one of the PCI-e x1/4 sockets to fit a GPU in there :D

yeah those two physx tips have worked incredibly well, now running 1680x1050 all settings maxed including phsyx and 3D vision on, on a single gtx 480 and its above 30fps 95% of the time. which is completely acceptable to me and looks incredible, especially the in door shoot out scene with the physx debris and smoke adding to the 3D, as a package it could possibly even dethrone metro 2033 as the best looking game i've ever seen, could probably do with an outdoor texture pack though

SLI Disabled, 2nd GPU dedicated to Physx, AA on, High Physx

I've been eyeing a single slot 9800gt for Physx, i'll know by Friday if I've got it or not.

That's Rroff's theory gone out the window, a dedicated physx card looks to be performing on par with say a 480 doing the rendering as well as physx.

@Arcane, the game is no problem for a single 470 to render without physx, 470 SLI with an 9800gt will not give you anymore performance than a single 470 with a 470 dedicated to physx only, in fact chances are it will be slower.
