Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

Surely, to create a new chassis within 3 weeks is almost impossible?
Also, if they did a complete redesign wouldn't it need to pass crash tests? And is this only done before the start of the season?
Is it even possible for them to do a complete redesign?

Can redo crash test at any time, rumours that they already did a few weeks back, again denied by Ferrari.

I doubt there will be a B chassis, just major changes to the current one.

Right, so just to clarify: if a team wish to, can they redesign their entire car, from top to bottom, mid-season, and after passing crash tests and scrutineering, use it to race in that season?

Yep they can.

However if Ferrari are just changing the front suspension they could only have to redesign the mounting points at the front end of the tub, so the rest of the tub and all other components of the car would remain the same.

Turning that around in 3 weeks might be a push, but doing it within the first few months of the season (i.e. by Spain) might well be possible.

We wont know the full details of what they have or haven't done untill they turn up somewhere with a new chassis.

Yep they could have started it a few weeks ago after getting the data from the tests.... or just developing the car further down the road it has already. Gotta love F1.

Why not red bull showed a complete disregard for spending agreements so who can blame them for rebuilding a car that's crap ;)

It will be interesting to see how it goes.

That's **** poor by FOM. Bernie really doesn't get media does he. He could make a killing re-releasing (or god forbid, raiding his massive archives and re-editing) the old season reviews on DVD/BR but he just won't.

And putting up clips and other extras on Youtube for more coverage and interest. Pretty shocking how out of touch they are.

Why when that means some effort - far easier for him to strangle a neck of a sponsor/race promoter/tv contract before breakfast by releasing a damning quote and make a few million that way...

ps3ud0
