Malaysian GP 2009 - Race 2/17

I have a similar feeling (although as Stewards have deemed the design legal - twice - I cant see how the FIA can. Not that its stopped them before)

The other thing "for" the Brawn / Toyota etc camp is that Brawn himself pointed out the possibility of these designs 12 months ago, and no one listened.

one of the main issues is that both renault and red bull claim that the stewards/fia rejected their *similar* designs last year saying that they were in breach of the intention of the rules.

... (after all if McLaren can actually end races 3rd /4th legally - before being stupid afterwards) - most teams should be able to score points even without diffusers

Erm. McLaren have Hamilton. Other teams dont. Hamilton seems to be disliked on this forum, but the fact remains that there is probably only one other driver in F1 who can match/surpass him. Hamilton is VERY special and scoring points in bad cars isnt easy.

In saying that, I feel that it is unlikely that the double decker diffuser won't be banned. Even if it is, the FIA might allow the teams who are running that diffuser, to race with them for a few races, until it is deemed the team would've had enough time to design a new diffiuser.

Certainly, the points that have already been scored by Williams, Brawn, etc will stand and wont be taken away. Thats almost a dead cert.

Nice to hear Ferrari personally attack Brawn as an "extremely arrogant man" during the hearing. How short their memories are - maybe they are just gutted they don't have him helping with their strategies at places like Malaysia. :)

Its just sour grapes tbh. Nothing wrong with that though - if I were Ferrari I would call him all sorts of names. Of course, given the chance, I would snap him up in a heartbeat, if he wanted a job.

in a previous thread - I asked whether there where elements to the rejected teams design that breached the rules.....no one could answer this (which is fair enough ;))

.

sorry my point wasnt clear - yes McLaren car is woeful at the moment and therefore qualifying low down the grid. But there are a lot of cars that wiped themselves out of the 1st two races in reasonably good cars that could still score good points even without the diffuser, whereas deaming the diffuser illegal straight away makes it impossible for Brawn and possibly others from racing in China esp

I don't think Hamilton is disliked on this forum. It is a British forum afterall.

It's probably 50/50, much of the dislike comes down to ITV and the OTT fawning imo. It was pretty much the same with button when they first started kneeling before him.

A quiet season or two will probably do a lot of good for hamiltons popularity. Plus the BBC don't seem quite as OTT.

Zinardi too was a great advert in how much a great car is needed in f1. I've seen some races from him in cart that I've simply never seen the like of in F1.
wasnt he the guy who couldnt adapt to left foot brakes?

Result of the FIA hearing will be tomorrow afternoon. The more I read about it the more I think unfortunately the diffuser will be banned; mainly for not adhering to rules relating to the floor of the car rather than the height of the diffuser. However, lets be totally honest, a good diffuser will not bring the likes of Ferrari and Mclaren to the front of the grid. They need to catch up with the aero for this year - which will take time.

P.S. Please don't come on here and tell us we hate Lewis Hamilton. He is a great driver (not the best ever IMO by a long mile) but like any British sportsman he is supported whilst he is winning, just look at the number of Brawn sigs on the boards - we love a winner here lol!

Quick random question about next year...

You know there is the 30mil, low restriction vs unlimited budget restrictions thing? Is there going to be something in place to stop say, Ferrari from wheeling out an old chasis from a couple of years back when they dominated 100%, and just working the 30mil on advanced aero and stuff?

i'd like to know how they are going to monitor what people say they are spending in the first place.

there must be loads of room for cheating
