Malaysian GP 2009 - Race 2/17

I dislike arrogance and cheats, its one of the worst human traits imo, horses for courses so they say!

I watched the Alonso/Hamilton Hungary 2007 qual video on youtube, v funny, I was ****ed off with Alonso at the time, but v amusing looking back!

So, you hate cheats and arrogance. OK.

You do realise that the incident in qualifying at Hungary 2007 was actually started by Hamilton? He went against team orders with regards to which driver would go out in qualifying, first. Alonso responded (as well, he should), took pole, got demoted, while Hamilton came out of all that smelling of roses.

Hamilton was the instigator. If you hate cheats and arrogance, it's Hamilton you should hate, as he epitomises these traits.

There are no two ways about it, Hamilton is one bad bad boy. But then so were MS, Senna, Prost, etc.

So what are peoples predictions for the next few races along with gossip to keep us occupied until China :p

I'm not sure who can beat the package of Button + Brawn for the next two races. That car is just so quick, and I'm yet to see any notable mistake from Jenson.
The Toyota's are looking very good, they're just not good enough at the moment. In an event free race I can see them mopping up behind the Brawn cars.
Rosberg is looking quick and a decent threat, but I think Red Bull and BMW are probably a bigger threat at the moment. Vettel and Kubica both had some bad luck today, and no need to comment on next week. Plenty more coming in this space.

Ferrari need to stop making silly errors and then I feel they will be up there with Williams and RBR's pace with the advantage of KERS. Mclaren certainly needs a bit more at the moment, but they have the Messiah :p;) Kova needs to put in a few good drives really.
I'd like to see Renault pick up the pace too, I want to see more of Alonso getting involved with the racing like today, him and Webber was great to watch :)

I doubt anyone is going to beat the BrawnGP cars for a while. The are just too far ahead of the rest.

What is NOS?

Its unlikely that you will see anything special from Heikki. I rate him marginally ahead of Piquet. His qualifying pace is decent, but his race pace/craft is VERY weak. Silverstone is his best track, but we wont see that for a while.

Hamilton is doing a fantastic job, with the equipment available to him.

It will be interesting to see whether the double (or triple ¬_¬ :p) decker diffuser is ruled legal or not,

Either way, assuming that if it's deemed legal all teams will have their own version for China I think Vettel/Red Bull could be right up there with the Brawns, the car isn't slow now without the diffuser, and if that is worth 0.5-0.7s a lap that will put them right on the pace pretty much, then they just need KERS to get that start...

I'm not sure how much the rules really helped with overtaking tbh, yes there is overtaking but it seems primarily that the KERS based cars get a jump off the grid (eg alonso at malaysia, the two ferrari's in melbourne) and end up in positions that they don't have the pace to hold, leading to the quicker cars going past and driving away. Seeing Button behind Trulli, with a car that was almost a second quicker than Trulli's pace, surely if he could've got past he would have?

By how bad the McLaren car is this year, even compared to Ferrari?

Considering you know more than Mad Max surely you should be fully aware that Hamilton and Kova didnt actually design the dog of a car they have been given to drive? If what your saying is correct then Button and Rubens are just as bad for driving 2 seasons in a pile of turd? Where was there knowledge and input to help move the car forward? Any input from the drivers towards development is done once they actually get to drive the thing, which considering the lack of testing is going to be very hard to do.

Even if the double /triple diffuser is banned a week tomorrow (which it shouldnt be but thats never stopped the FIA) - the Brawn is the car /team to beat, and unfortunately RB seems to be making little mistakes which is affecting his campaign a little

As yet I dont think JB has made any significant mistake (yes the last pitstop out of position at Melbourne but even then he had it in the bag) - he just looks untouchable at present....... and not forgetting the suggestion that the Brawn still has some pace in hand as yet undemonstrated

The Toyota's are looking very good, they're just not good enough at the moment. In an event free race I can see them mopping up behind the Brawn cars.

The Toyota's definitely look next best - a couple of tenths off the Brawn's in fuel corrected race trim, but without a doubt dangerous for quali.... and if they can keep Brawn's behind them at the start of a race (with the so far slight difference in outright pace) would be difficult for anyone without KERS to get ahead of them

Trulli doesnt seem to have the race pace, and with the liklihood that they will always be a bit lighter Brawn SHOULD be able to get infront during the 1st pitstops but anything can happen...

Rosberg is looking quick and a decent threat, but I think Red Bull and BMW are probably a bigger threat at the moment. Vettel and Kubica both had some bad luck today, and no need to comment on next week. Plenty more coming in this space

Rosberg looks great and I wouldnt be unhappy to see Williams truelly succeed again - always had a softspot for that team and glad to see them up there

That Redbull car also looks good - but Im not sure if they will be just a little bit behind by the time Ferrari and possibly McLaren get on song they could be the big losers ( I hope not though, I think it would be great for F1 if Ferrari and McLaren fought in the midpack for some time)

I'd like to see Renault pick up the pace too, I want to see more of Alonso getting involved with the racing like today, him and Webber was great to watch :)

To be honest I would really like Renault to be near the back of the grid for a while, cant stand the lead driver or the management of the team but they make a great (untrustworthy) duo by all accounts

Chill out, I said I find it funny. Personally I dont find Hamilton arrogant, nor 'a cheat'. The incidents between those two looking back are funny, this gives F1 a bit of colour. Yep Hamilton started it, but you have to say Alonso's infraction was the worse, hence the FIA taking action.

lol, just lol.

ROFL - obvious you dont follow the sport too closely ;)

ps3ud0

Can someone clarify this for me, just so I know I'm not going mad...

During the race buildup, one of the presenters quickly went over what was available on the 'Red button'; driver stats, cameras etc and they also mentioned the different commentaries that were available - the BBC TV team, Radio 5 Live team and the CBBC commentary?!?!

Did I completely miss hear what was said or is there a CBBC commentary available?! (I didn't have access to the red button stuff at the time so couldn't check). If so, what's it like? :p

yup its true CBBC has its own commentary.

For the two mintues I had it turned on, it wasn't much of a commentary, more a radio show with some motor racing going on in the background.
When they mentioned JB, they had a jingle with "Push the button" by Sugababes. A jingle ffs. Murray would turn in his comfy slippers.
They even phoned some weather bloke up on a mobile phone to ask him the weather

Well i guess it is broadcast for the younger listener and they do tend to have a short attention span. Its good for getting kids into F1 though so, all good in my opinion. My two prefer the grown-up commentary though. The older one especially as he is a big F1 [Red Bull] fan and is doing his work experience with us in July.

He loving the start of the season then? The car is looking quick especially in the half wet conditions we saw yesterday before it properly chucked it down.

Yeh it is unheard of for him to be out of bed much before 11am on a Sunday, unless it is a race weekend! We seem to be suffering from some bad choice/luck so far but the car looks pacey.
