Exactly. Whatever's happened to Hamilton's engine is sod all to do with him, he's been in the right place at the right time.

Vettel had appalling luck in 2010 with the best car but still pinched it at the death, seems to be in sport luck changes right at the very end so I'm calling it now - Hamilton will take the title at the last race.

This is the thing, it's where you are at the end of the year that counts. No point leading the championship for 20 races or whatever and then losing it at the last one. :o

I'd like Lewis to win it but I don't think he will this time round judging by how the seasons gone. As for the conspiracy theory stuff I don't buy it personally. Mercedes want the constructors title, why would they jeopardise it?! Lewis has just been unlucky with engines/reliability and that's it.

Hamilton has said to some journo that "Something or someone doesn't want me to win this world championship"

Nicely done Mark... :D But he still has another boot...

I don't believe it's a conspiracy with Hamilton, but it will clearly be the deciding factor if he loses the WDC.

It's gutting if the cause of your demise is out of your control like that.

When machines are involved, luck will always play a part. Yes, he's had plenty of bad luck (and if that was me I'd be flipping my lid too) but he's clearly the better of the two drivers so has the skill to turn it around still.

He turned around 3 failures he had vs none for Rosberg.... and turned around some other luck and then he gets another failure.

Rosberg got a free unchallenged win at Spa because due to the first three failures he had to take new engines then again he has another failure. So every time he turns it around he gets another failure. So if he goes another 4 wins in a row, gets back ahead, then has another failure.

Skill can't beat failing engines.

I'd forgotten that Hamilton and Rosberg swapped car crews this year.
So the crew that has been beaten for the last 2 years is now working on Hamilton's car.

I was just going to mention that. There was a story in the press about that a couple of days ago too. What was the reasoning for swapping crews? It's seems ridiculous giving Hamiltons no 1 mechanic to Roberg when hes won 2 championships?

Are you forgetting that rosberg just finished on the podium (or if it helps, would have been 4th if Hamilton hadn't failed) after getting spun out through no fault of his own and pushed to the back of the field?

I was literally about to say the same. Hamilton basically inherited the title lead from lap 1 through no fault of Rosberg but everyone seems to have forgotten that :p

If Hamilton doesn't like it then he can always join Force India and pick up 4 or 6 points per race, not like Merc granted him 2 world titles with a superior car or anything!

It was because they didn't want a divided team in the garage. I.e. A them vs us within the team. By swapping everyone about that's taken away. Whether they get swapped back for next year is something else I guess??

You know he qualified in pole position, and was ahead into the first corner...

Inherited... yeah sure.

That's the downside of this sport compared to others.
If you're a long distance runner, your ability to win is purely on your talent and how much practice you've put in. With motorsports, you can be a great driver but it's out of your control if your machine messes up.

and?

Is your argument that if one driver loses points in say, 7-8 races due to back luck and failures, then one piece of bad luck for another driver instantly evens this up?

Where in my post did I discount any bad luck for Rosberg?

You realise the very fact that Rosberg managed to go from the back to 3rd is exactly why an engine failure like today is so bad. because even in Rosberg's worst race with the most bad luck.... he ends up third and gaining 15 points on Hamilton.

If Hamilton hadn't had multiple engine failures he would be way ahead of Rosberg in the championship and Rosberg spinning or not would have made no difference.
