That's the downside of this sport compared to others.
If you're a long distance runner, your ability to win is purely on your talent and how much practice you've put in. With motorsports, you can be a great driver but it's out of your control if your machine messes up.

And indeed how good your machine is! That's why we'd always like to see certain drivers in better cars. I'd loved to have seen hulkenburg or Sainz in a better car just to see what they could do.

I'd forgotten that Hamilton and Rosberg swapped car crews this year.
So the crew that has been beaten for the last 2 years is now working on Hamilton's car.

Yeah that might work if people on here didn't spend those 2 years whining about Rosbergs better reliability and luck. So rosberg actually had to hand over the better crew to Hamilton.

This only ever becomes an issue on here when it's hamilton. Just about every other championship year one team mate has worse reliability than the other and no one cares. It's a mechanical sport and the driver makes up 1% at most of the lap time over the other, you can't get bent out of shape when the other 99% goes wrong.

Yeah so the inferior and frankly crap other driver might win a title, so what. It happens often, they just happen to be team mates. Button was never the best driver in the world when he won the title, neither was hamilton, or Villeneuve or Hill and so on. Yet because it's Rosberg people become so bitter.

It's modern F1, which is frankly a bit crap.

It's Rosbergs Title now. Brazil is a major bogey track for Lewis and Mexico has question marks.
Sure Lewis will win next week and Austin but will be negated at next 2 tracks.
Also Rosbergs penalty is comedy albeit no effect in the end.

I think some get switched every year, but the sheer number of failures he's had since 2014 compared to Rosberg is ridiculous.

What just makes it worse to me is Rosberg keeps cheating. Since 2014 he stole pole at Monaco by cheating, jumped corners to stay ahead in Canada, smacked into him on purpose in Spa, I can't really remember what happened last year(was Spa last year or 2014 with the contact?). This year he pushed Hamilton off the road in Spain, smacked him off the road in Austria and taken penalties for shoving other drivers off the road or making stupid contact like today.

They are now taking about whether Rosbergs penalty was big enough?! Now I'm not rosbergs biggest fan(going by all mys posts here.. :p) but we moan that he can't overtake, he then tries an aggressive overtake, makes contact and now we think he isn't punished enough!?! Haha!

Firstly they swap some people every year, second, it's not Rosberg has 2 failures and Hamilton has 4, that is fairly standard. This is Rosberg has had zero engine failures, Hamilton has had 5 or 6 now. That isn't close to the same, it's incomparable and personally I can't think of a single situation in which there has been such a difference between reliability of team mates.

Last year Hulk had one failure early on.... then that was it. He had one engine more go compared to Perez and no more failures throughout the season. That is standard, the reliability for Hamilton vs Rosberg isn't at all comparable to any other driver pair, frankly ever.

Hamilton gave the numbers, 43 Merc engines used this year, like 5-6 have failed, they are all his. That is statistically speaking, insanely unlikely to the point where there IS a problem somewhere that they haven't found.

This is what annoys me. Something about Hamilton and his fans that nothing ever seems to appease them. I hate the British media and the constant tossing off over him. Yeah, he's an insanely talented driver but things like this seriously bother me. I don't like Rosberg, but scraping the barrel to try and make things seem better is pathetic.

He only passed and got track position because he jumped up the corner and couldn't actually make the corner. He made contact, hit the other driver. The reason why a bigger penalty sounds right to some people is, he only got the chance to extend the gap by over 10 seconds because he had track position. He only had track position because he hit Kimi to make the pass. IE, he hit the driver but the result of hitting him was he had the ability to make the penalty irrelevant. He basically didn't actually get penalised in effect.

It was more than an aggressive overtake, there was no way that was ever going to work. If you crash your way through and finish ahead of the guy you hit then yeah surely the penalty is incorrect, or merc could use this whenever they want?

Not going as far as to suggest sabotage but seriously it's suspect to have 9 other mercedes users on the grid and they don't have their engines failing every other weekend. Something aint right.

Kimi was surprisingly silent over the whole Rosberg thing, unless it was so expletive they didn't broadcast it. Absolutely ridiclously lenient penalty, considering Rosberg was literally using Kimi to stop his car. Unbelievable.

Still, some solace in that Ric got his win. Deserved for a while.

There’s been 43 engines for Mercedes and only Hamiltons have gone.

I'm not suggesting a conspiracy, but that's some awful luck :(
