Manchester Bombing *** Please remain respectful and refrain from antagonising posts ***

so let me get this right you saying hes annoyed that the west helped topple Gadaffi's regime who his parents apparently fled from for a better life in the UK ? Yes that makes perfect sense....

so if i was to go and bomb a mosque and stated the reason was because Christians were being persecuted in some Muslim countries (true) I presume you would at least partially rush to my defense?
Who said anything about defending him? There's a difference between defending and understanding and explaining.

There's nothing physical you can do to prevent attacks like this happening, anyone can make explosives and a bomb at home.

All you can do is attempt to stamp out religion, the brainwashing of people must stop in the 21st century, mankind must surpass it and overcome it.
Never happen, and it wouldn't work anyway.

And yet many planned attacks have been stopped. The fact this isn't happening more often is a testament to the excellent work being done by police and security services.

Whilst I know where you are coming from I don't think I could ever understand or explain how you can view a bunch of kids going to a concert as a legitimate target.

Several of the kids from our school where at the concert last night (all safe and sound thankfully) and I am finding it increasingly hard to not feel anger and a growing sense of frustration at this.

I've removed some posts as I don't want this thread going the same way as every other one ends up ie just comparing how bad one religion is to the other through history.
If these type of posts continue then those posters will have their access from the thread removed.
It's pathetic reading it time and again.

I think it's more down to the appetite of potential terrorists. With greater intent last night could easily be a regular occurence. Lorry attacks require barely any planning and the lack of them is not because of excellent security.

That is the most depressing part of it all. There doesn't appear to be a legitimate solution to this mess, as much as some people insist there is a "final solution" and that all "western men should rise up"

Even if magically a solution does come along all that will happen is another cause will take its place and blow things and people up. You can't change human nature unfortunately.

It's a no win situation, we just have to manage the risks and put it all into perspective.

There is always a thought process, unless they are truly insane, but that is rarely the case in these instances. It's important to be able to unpick the thought process so that you know what is motivating these people, how they are persuaded, etc. If you don't do that then you can't know how best to tackle the problem.

It's that or you just conclude that you should glass the whole of the Middle East, but that's a pretty primitive solution.

While wars do seem to be a feature of human history I'm not sure I'd call deliberately blowing up kids 'human nature'... that sort of requires some convoluted justification - in this case perhaps an ideological stance that paints them as less than/2nd class humans less worthy of life. The trans Atlantic slave trade was previously justified because black people were seen as sub human, the holocaust was justified because jewish people and some other groups were seen as sub human. In this case we've got an ideology deeming 'infidels' to be less worthy of life. Removing Nazisim didn't case something to take it's place in continental Europe and I don't see why something need take the place of fundamentalist Islam either. Hopefully as the world progresses and education improves we'll find fewer and fewer people believing in ancient religions in general anyway.

Stop having people 'known' to authorities and just lock them up instead.
You can't lock people up if they haven't committed a crime, and whatever you may think, thinking "death to the west" isn't and shouldn't be a crime, at least not until you're actually conspiring to do something about it.

There's always a legitimate reasoning and by that i mean, in their eyes. With the degrees of freedom now present in the world with peoples connectivity, most muslims (a lot of whom have large family units) will have someone they've lost due to a NATO bomb or soldier, its easy to stew up some resentment regardless of how moderate they might be. This guy could have lost cousins in Syria or Afghanistan (etc etc) and that'd be justification enough for him, certainly is at least for any extremist in that region anyway.

Its not difficult to work out what motivates them! Resentment and anger towards our way of life fuelled by a medieval text legitimizing and promising everlasting happiness if you commit mass murder.

You would be surprised, mental health issues aside people talk.

Or conversely, there is an inherent thought process that is suppressed by the environment rather than activated by it. For example capitalism, the ability for upward mobility, keeps the vast majority in check.
