Massive blast in Beirut

Holy crap, that's an immense explosion. There will be a lot of deaths :( the poor people on the motorway filming it, instantly gone :( RIP

That doesn't look like fireworks exploding though - quite a few videos on YT of fires and explosions at those.

At a certain temperature, the fireworks will stop going off one by one as the fire spreads and simply detonate due to the heat.that'll result in a huge, largely simultaneous blast quite different from smaller fires

Holy ****.

That's awful. As it's happened, and obviously cannot be reversed, I hope it was a fire in a fireworks depot, and nothing more sinister.

Well that'll make it to number 1 on any "top 10 explosion" vids on youtube now, I don't understand how a warehouse full of fireworks can create such a blast though, it's bigger than that epic blast in China a few years which was around 21tonnes of equivalent TNT

There's also the fact that if it's storage, there could just be raw materials, rather than just boxes of premade fireworks.

Blimey....
I wonder if they will release what really caused that 2nd explosion.. whatever it was rip those guys.

 That has to be on a par with some of the largest conventional bombs! The shockwave and shrapnel must have been lethal within 300-400m. :(

When first saw it I genuinely wondered whether the US had unleashed their "MOAB" again (Mother of all Bombs, 20,000lb of convential explosive, delivered by hercules usually)

I'd have said it was slightly smaller than the 2nd major blast at Tianjin though not much in it. That video doesn't really do the 2nd blast justice.

Video below's taken from someone not more than 10 metres away from the factory and there are dozens of firework or ammunition going off before the big explosion. No idea if it was live or uploaded after but it's mental how close he is.

Edit: Already included in the Twitter link above.

Difficult to fathom how, in any rational sense, someone so close would/could have survived to then upload such a video
