Massive Car insurance costs?

It’s never going to be. Roof/tail gate/tow bar mounted bike rack on your existing car is the cheap option.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured, unfortunately it's a lease car, so towbar is out, aluminium tailgate means that's not an option either, so roof it is!

Might be a bit windy up there for the dog though...

Looks like I might be picking up a grandad wagon for the next car (Berlingo or similar)

The new one looks pretty nice tbh, shame the EV version has such awful range :( it's a pretty low insurance group too isn't it?
Honestly not sure, I drive a 2003 Yaris Verso. But when I briefly considered an EV, the Berlingo was the first time I ever saw one with steel wheels instead of alloys!

Yaris Verso is insurance group 9 so pretty cheap yeah.

My mate had a Berlingo. I used it for a dump run once for a fridge. The accelerator pedal was as heavy as the brake pedal! Took my fridge and all my other junk no problem though. With the seats down it was practically a van :)

You have my deepest sympathy.

More seriously, it’s probably not adding a whole lot but you could try the tricks on the MSE website to see if there is a ‘better’ description for your job.

Register a LTD company then you are officially a company director, or just assign yourself whatever title gets the best price :D

Though they never seem to actually check anyway, even when you claim. They also can't just find out thanks to GDPR

Just got as pleasant a surprise as you could expect when renewal due, nigh on a 30% reduction!!
2018 C43 coupe. £970 to £681. Increase of £150 on excess but matching excess to last year only goes up to £715, so still over £250 less.
Still loads but Manchester postcode....

Just moved and current underwriter won't cover me, next best price offered +£1,950.

Best I've found is £+350 which is still +45% :o 18 years no claims, can't believe how expensive insurance is at the moment.

To the point where getting the train to work is now actually beginning to look like an attractive option.

McLaren 600 LT came up for renewal at £1400 so about £200 more but as I don't plan any more track days in it, I switched to Admiral and put it on the multi-car policy and it works out at £780 per annum, LOL. :D

They know what you did to the hire van...

Just for giggles I got a quote on a 2017 Alfa Giulia Quad, £33k value, no mods. Nothing changed and compared to my 2015 428i, £13k value on a good day, it's only £120pa more. I was expecting 50% more at least.

Renewal for the Starlet came through, approx £360, about £20 cheaper than it was last year.

Bittersweet though, as I'm fully expecting it to shoot up in 2 months time when I have to update my address to Leeds :o

I wonder if we have reached peak insurance premiums - quotes for a couple of new car alternatives still at local dealers seem to have dropped by 20% over 4 months £400->£300.
(Insure247 will update old quote just by clicking link in email - better than most comp sites)

for existing renewal spent 2 x 20minutes on phone with Aviva Indian customer support. - their online system giving me a quote of £300 versus AA renewal at £600, and comparison site £400's
but system wouldn't recognise the reg plate, they checked the quote was valid with a telephone quote, but with two calls were unable to introduce the reg into the online quote so
I could play with the add-ons cost, confirm details, and keep it in my back pocket.
Had insured the car with Aviva in the past, nonetheless reg plate was not identified.

Mine is due end of next month, I ran some quotes about 3 weeks ago just to get an idea of how painful it was going to be. Surprisingly wasn't as bad as expected, ran some more over the weekend just to see if it was still looking ok.
Nope everything has shot up by at least £100 with no other changes other than 3 weeks passing.

It's at this point it feels like they are just taking the **** because there's sod all we can do about it.
