Massive Car insurance costs?

Another year of getting bent over.

£1553 for car + house. One phone call and it is down to £1448.

Only comparison - £975 for car, £400 for house. Going to leave on principle I think!

So I am coming up for insurance renewal in a month and running quotes for my Lotus Eletre R I got back on July.

When I changed from my Tesla on my current policy for the last 2 months I actually got £25 back.

The only quotes I can get are £18k-£20k per year for me as named driver with my partner also on the car. And no mainstream insurers will even quote me.

My previous policies like for like were £1200 or so.

If I change one character on my surname but with everything else identical , it goes back down to around £1200?

I’ve checked my credit score and still perfect. No claims or anything etc.

what the hell is going on? Insurers just like it is what it is??

Only thing that has changed and maybe found in my name on the soft credit search they do is I took the car out on finance with minimum deposit as it was at 0% so £132k loan against the card. But it’s a fraction of my income still, I have more than enough liquid assets to pay it off but why would I?? (as this is the only thing I can think of)

Any ideas on how can resolve this as £18k+ is a joke

Yea seems to be something really whacky going on with performance car insurance at the moment.

Admiral are quoting me good money but most other providers will not quote or want silly money.

Unless they've incorrectly linked something to your name e.g. a claim or something.

Only way to find out is to ring them or I guess submit a GDPR request or similar to see what information they have on you?

Yeh will try tomorrow to go through. It’s weird it’s not on other cars though. Only ever claimed for a windscreen replacement but back in 2020 and not been an issue before.

Time for me to actually buy my renewal now, quotes still £100 more expensive than when I checked in mid July for some reason

Haven't had my renewal quote through from my current insurers but don't really want to hang around and it break the £1k mark because I'm buying closer to renewal time.

Got an update. After pushing admiral they said they had no idea what was going on and did manual adjustments.

Got my car renewal in at £1100 and home insurance at £900.
I added home insurance on Admiral and it reduced the amount of my car insurance significantly. About £200 less for car insurance + home insurance than just the car insurance on its own. No brainer really
