Mattresses - I need knowledge

I don't use toppers on my JR mattresses, I'd rather get the full comfort and enjoyment out of them. In the grand scheme of things, for how often a mattress is used the price is nothing so if it got ruined somehow which couldn't be cleaned (by myself or professionally) then I'll take that risk.

I'm intrigued why you'd want some kind of topper .. wasn't mattress ok on its own .. whilst I'd like to try dunlopillo, I find a memory (in combo on a hybrid?) too warm.
Tempur have (the 'ex' tennis player?) have some new breathable version though.

We had a Tempur mattress and when we spoke to JR they said the best similar mattress to a Tempur would be the Hybrid 5 and cool blue topper. For the first 3 and a half years it was great but the last six months or so have been terrible. It's been too hot for me to sleep on and my knees, back and shoulders were all achy. Like I said, since removing the topper last week I've been cooler and slept a lot better with no aches or pains.

I want to use one on the new mattress as I'll be returning it under their guarantee if we can't adjust to it and I think they say you have to have used a mattress protector but not sure how they would tell, especially if you did stain it and got it professionally cleaned.
 
In that case do as jpaul mentioned and use a protector rather than a topper as you won't adjust to it and it will give you a skewed idea of how it feels; ultimately returning it anyway as you'll have the same problems above, such as overheating, aching etc.

Sorry, made my post ref topper confusing. I won't be using a topper on the new mattress just a protector.
 
Good stuff. Just be sure to give it enough time, first nights can sometimes be a bit uncomfortable though I didn't have that problem. Keep us posted on your progress with it.

The edge does sag yes, I doubt it has any form of edge support. I wouldn't buy it to use myself. For ourselves we have a water mattress, and before that a mattress through John Ryan; which is now in our main guestroom.

why a water mattress? my uncle has one and it just sounded weird and i imagine is quite noisy if you move around a lot. much like a cheap spring mattress.

You can get water mattresses with different hardness ratings. They basically have fibres inside to limit the water movement. We've got a Motionless one, which essentially means that the water stops moving within 0.5s. That affects the "bounciness" of the mattress.

The noise is there if there's air into the mattress. You need to bleed it out once every 4-6 months and put conditioner once a year. If you do that, there's no noise.

The advantage of a water mattress is essentially the comfort and load distribution on your body. Also they are heated (costs us £1 a month and they are on 24/7), so fantastic in winter as well.
 
Need a new mattress, I'm thinking about getting the Simba, but then I have seen a fair few posts on here mention John Ryan pocket 1500

Has anyone got feedback on both.

I went with an Emma in the end as it was 35% off with a free mattress protector which is apparently, normally worth a bonkers £160 :eek:

Arrived yesterday so going to try it tonight, seems Emma vs Simba is just a case of personal preference as they are both as good as each other according to reviews

On a side note, I removed the topper we had with the JR Hybrid 5 bed we've currently got and we've both been sleeping loads better, my knees and back aren't as sore after a nights sleep and my wife says her shoulders are a lot better when she sleeps on her side. Could the topper be faulty?

I have now cancelled the order for the Artisan Naturals. Since removing the topper they recommended we have been sleeping very well. Will stick with the Hybrid 5 and see how much mileage we get out of it, in the meantime saved myself £1200 :)

Yeah, I really liked it. As someone who sleeps on their side, it feels great. You sink a tiny amount, just enough so it keeps you in place and supported, but after that it's really firm which is how I like it. Slept really well. Girlfriend isn't 100% sold at the moment, she doesn't like that there's that little bit of softness from the top layer as she's been so used to such a firm, no budge mattress

Ahh that's good to hear! How did you find delivery? Some stories out there of people waiting weeks.. I'm placing an order via the rainforest with a delivery date of tomorrow which I'm not convinced by

My estimate when I ordered was 2-4 weeks, which was annoying as Simba was 2 days. But I wasn’t in a rush so I gave them a chance as the price was so much better with the offer.

It turned up after 3 weeks
