Shameful.
Surely these people should be on the first plane out of Britain, I don't care where to.
That is their remit, if they deem it unsuitable then it is well within their right to censor things as the please. That's debatable of course. A couple of nut jobs? Or so some degree a state of mind across huge numbers? Let's remember this even resulted in some countries cutting internet access - so it was hardly just a bunch of 'nutters' taking action.
The religious aspect is not why you appease them... it is because most people have enough decency not to go out of their way to deliberately annoy/insult others just because they don't believe the same thing. The initial movement was set off by the fact people are havnig to adjust their behaviour just to appease religious individuals, who go out of their way to be offended. Add to this then that of course we've see violence even threatened, people had simply had enough, and decided in a peaceful way to make a complete mockery of the entire thing.
And "you" (as a general reference) are proposing what exactly? In short, how dare any religion try and push its beliefs onto other people, especially people of different cultures/beliefs!
That is their remit, if they deem it unsuitable then it is well within their right to censor things as the please.
It is exactly the same as various things censored in this country (underage porn and various other not-so-savoury activities deemed unsuitable)
China censors anti-government messages, does that mean all Chinese around the world or even the majority are fully for government censorship?
In Germany it is illegal to display a swastika, to people whom this is of little significance it is an equally stupid law but i don't see you up in arms over that condemning all Germans to intolerance
I don't use the phrase up in armsStrange you use the phrase "up in arms", when the only individuals who can be considered "up in arms" in this matter are those folks having a ridiculous hissy fit about a cartoon...
If we keep things in context the whole situation was hyped by the media yes and the usual nutjobs did their posturing, it only escalated when governments (more specifically their leaders) got involved. And if we keep things in context, a cartoon has resulted in the likes of death threats and even internet access/borders being closed.
No logical reason to you, the exact same thing happened at the returning soldiers parade where the fringe group had banners and thing calling them murderers. Just search this forum to see some of the replies. And why, because these individual - to use your phrase again - get "up in arms" about matters which really do not concern them. They expect other to comply to their beliefs and desires for no logical reason, and worse still resort to threats to achieve this.
Again you are equating Islam as a whole to a minority group, the majority (who cared) did show their grievance in a non-violent way (you mention one yourself, blocking internet sites)If I want to spend the rest of life drawing cartoons mocking religious figures, how dare anyone threaten my life over this. It's a dangerous president when religion controls the will the will of its followers, but even more dangerous when it tries to do so with everyone else...
In short, Islam needs to grow up... And what better way of making a point than comically. Or should we threaten lives?
Could people please create a new thread for all the shouting? I keep on occasionally wandering in here thinking there might be some more funny comics... and its just a load of people arguing.
The arrogance that everyone else should change to suit you is hilarious, there are some things those so called 'backward', countries do far better than here and there are others things that aren't if people were intelligent enough they would choose the best of both world rather than live in this ridiculous 'us' and 'them', mentality.

Looks, like you, using that phrase to me?In Germany it is illegal to display a swastika, to people whom this is of little significance it is an equally stupid law but i don't see you up in arms over that condemning all Germans to intolerance.
You're logic is upside down... I don't expect anyone to change behaviour, view or opinion, especially over something as silly as religion. But unfortunaly this is what Islam expects? It throws a hissy fit over cartoons? It expects other cultures/countries to change their behaviour, and infact, by threats (from militants or not), achieves this. Seems too many people have got fed up of having to walk on egg shells for Islam, and have had enough. The arrogance that everyone else should change to suit you is hilarious, there are some things those so called 'backward', countries do far better than here and there are others things that aren't if people were intelligent enough they would choose the best of both world rather than live in this ridiculous 'us' and 'them', mentality.
My mistake, i skim read what i wrote and missed it twice ><Ummm:-

Again you throw around 'Islam' as if you are referring to one body of people which is making a mockery of your entire post, i have pointed this out several times yet you seem to be unable to grasp this concept. You're logic is upside down... The ONLY reason this entire thing has kicked off is because Islam's inability to sit back and act like an adult, instead of throwing temper tantrums at seemingly any questioning of its faith, be serious or mocking.
I didn't ask to close the thread - I merely sugested that it was miles off a topic that I would be interested in. That those that wanted to have a largely pointless religous argument could go somewhere else and leave the equally meaningless laughter in here.
/edit Actually sorry I just realised that apparently I can try to close a thread. Do you think if I concentrate really really hard I could become a moderator for a moment?
So your interested in laughing at Muslims but can't contribute anything worthwhile it seems ?
Why not start a 'lets laugh at Muslims' thread but stipulate that religion based posts are not permitted & we will not post in your thread

How can you laugh at Muslims without it being religious based?
By Islam I'm grouping the (intolerant) culture/religion/mindset that seems behind this issue. It seemed as good a word/phrase as any.Again you throw around 'Islam' as if you are referring to one body of people which is making a mockery of your entire post, i have pointed this out several times yet you seem to be unable to grasp this concept.
How have I not been detached and logical? How have I not registered my disapproval, and been more than willing to explain it? Why are you still questioning/probing people who have clearly aired their views? Can I remind you that you're the one why came and poked my cage?If you actually looked at this in a detached and logical manner you would have noted that MOST people registered their disapproval and it was left at that. Or is this what you have a problem with?
