Of course it isnt always the case but there was absolutely no compulsion from me or my family for my fiancee to convert....she was asked quite clearly by my Imam why she wanted to do it and she gave her reasons and none of her reasons included that she wanted to do it because she wants to be with me. If she had said that she was doing it purely for me then my Imam at the mosque would have put a stop right there and then.

Fair enough.

If other muslim families are compelling/forcing the woman to convert then again thats their issue and its wrong...you cannot force islam onto anyone simple as that and thats the way ive been taught islam from a very early age....yeh its the boring version of islam as it doesnt quite meet the violent aspects of our religion:p.

Starting to get a tad defensive.

BTW you might want to read my last post regarding my FIANCEE...she isnt my wife just yet;).

Sorry missed that bit.

And no theres no question that i would have converted to her religion...i wouldnt be anything but a muslim and my fiancee is much the same...its funny that at a young age, she was already curious about islam...in fact she brought a few books home on islam and her parents beat the living crap out of her:(....i guess i can blame christianity for that eh??.

Yeah I have similar stories to how muslims behave. The woman I was on about earlier who had to convert to muslim (which she really didn't want to do even her partner thought it was a stupid religion and his parents were strict muslims but hey), got acid thrown on her car by her partners cousins then threatened that it would be on her next if she didn't leave him.

It appears we both have stories about how terrible each others religion is :o and I could do this all day.
My religion however happens to be very lenient, one of the reasons I chose it, they happen to realise that the world moves on, people change and following a religion steeped in antiquated morals just doesn't work and if I happened to want to marry a muslim they would accept her into the church with no problems.
Would your fiance if she had stayed as a catholic be allowed to go and pray by your side?

Hi mate, probably best to use this page as it has 3 different translations so you get a much better idea as to the meaning:

http://www.usc.edu/schools/college/crcc/engagement/resources/texts/muslim/quran/

Also, it's never a good idea just to quote 1 line which as you know can be taken out of context.

2 very fair points e36Adz.
I may check out that link in more detail as I am genuinely interested in seeing what makes religious people tick.
Like I said earlier, that's why I bought the Quran and the Bible and have just ordered the Talmud (The Ethics of the Talmud : sayings of the Fathers) from a certain auction site.

how come that after nearly 2,000 posts on this thread arguing about conversions to Islam & goodness know what else you suddenly enlighten us with the fact that you suddenly have an ex Catholic fiancee & a converted sister in law that we weren't privileged to hear about before ?

LOL ermm because i was making a point thats all...you know to kinda get you ignorant fools to pay attention:rolleyes:

Fair enough.

Ermm not getting defensive at all:)...just making my point thats all:).

Well if my fiancee was still catholic then no she wouldnt be able to pray beside me:confused:...how could she??...shes not muslim but if she wanted to learn how to pray then i would teach her or send her to someone who could teach her.
I can see what you mean by the leniency of your religion...despite all the bad press islam gets...its pretty lenient as well as long as you dont fall for what the extremists say as gospel. The version of Islam i have been brought up in preaches peace and forgiveness. Others are being taught the wrong version ie the extremist version....thats how i see it personally.

Some of his best friends are christians :P
Har har har...wow such a comedian you are arent you??

That's because they're imaginary.

It actually blows my mind how people still believe and follow this stuff...

Yes and you would know that wouldnt you as you know me personally do you??

It actually blows my mind how people are so ignorant and scared of learning about something...oh i forgot your knowledge of islam comes straight from what the media tells you to believe roffles...

Cathloics pray too you know ;)

No **** sherlock lol...i do know they pray but if molly was asking if they could pray alongside a muslim then no...well unless they knew the muslim prayer.

Thats the meaning i got from molly when she asked that question.

Found an interesting book on this site: http://www.myspear.org

What is the problem with it? ie two different religions praying along side each other to their own gods?
