McDonald’s general discussion

Given we have a KFC thread and a McDs thread, why not make a BK thread?

Start one.

I would if I had anything meaningful to contribute, I’ve not been in one for years.
I have started one.

I've never had a McRib before this recent come back, so I had one and meh.. it's alright I guess. I knew of it's 'legend' over the years however, so does it compare? was it all hype?

I was gonna give the McRib a try but have been put off by a few of the comments, I think I will swerve it and get ribbed up on some chinese style slow cooked ribs made at home, served up with egg fried rice and oven baked mini spring rolls.

Was travelling back from Manchester late last night and stopped off for a late night Maccie's just as we left the city - that was a mistake!

A 'gang' of 7 - 8 kids, must have been about 12 years old were running around in the place, one was non-stop banging on the window from the outside and then one of them decided to ride their bike into the place and around all the tables!

One of the staff was talking to them, but not in a GTFO type of way, but laughing and joking - so seems to be the norm there. Very weird.

Cut and paste email received back from McD's - i guess the above is acceptable :( 2 free meal vouchers also, but went back and said there were 3 of us. No email text, just an attachment for another meal voucher.

They’re really scraping the barrel now. Claiming they have a new burger coming in the Christmas menu with the new Cheese McCrispy. Basically a McCrispy with a slice of cheese. How is it new when you can already just add a slice of cheese anyway. Pathetic. I’m not too bothered though as the big tasty is finally back along with a new Terry’s chocolate orange pie

What do you mean?

It’s the same modus operandi that all the fast food companies have been deploying for decades.

The ‘new’ burger every 6 weeks is just a remix of the ingredients they use regularly* with only 1 or 2 unique elements.

*when I say regularly, I don’t necessarily mean from the core menu but from a slightly wider list of stuff they use on their core menu and promotional items over the course of the year.

Places like McDonald’s operate on such immense scale, doing something genuinely unique costs a lot of money, particularly if it needs a unique piece of equipment.

When I worked there they launched the toasted deli sandwich, a genuinely unique product launch for McD’s, the capital expenditure to launch that was insane, all in response to the rise of subway at the time.

I totally get that, but at least the other recent burgers have been ones that you can’t just customise yourself from a standard burger. I’m talking about burgers such as double Big Mac, chicken Big Mac, grand Mac, McRib, McCrispy deluxe, Philly cheesesteak etc.

This one looks like they’ve literally just added a single slice of cheese.

Didn't they do a Big Mac with bacon recently? I'm not sure is any different to that.

Ha! I agree with all the above apart from the 1-2 ‘unique’ elements.

Nothing unique not even a different sauce as they are all mayo based. Just remixing beef, bread, cheese and sauce.
