Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

I've got the ash tree black wood, to be honest with a couple of kids it's probably the best option to not end up with fingerprints everywhere due to the matte finish. I'm also a bit wary of glossy trims because they have always appeared to get micro scratches on previous cars I've owned. But they do look good.

I'd go along with pretty much what everyone else says with regards to w205 options. The only thing I really miss from my previous car is (BMW) driver assist plus, although I really love the Mercedes cruise stalk. As fox says, the prefacelift COMAND setup is also terrible (especially vs iDrive), but I mainly use an Echo Auto for radio/music, and Google maps for navigation. I may well take a punt on one of those Carplay/Android Auto boxes you can get on Alibaba for about £150, most of them seem to be the same as the boxes that people are selling for £500+ in the UK, although obviously they'll have better support if needed.

Here's the ash tree:

I was the exact same. I only wanted the wood trim. Piano black and carbon trim is a fingerprint magnet and I find the reflections when driving at night etc. was distracting.

Ash wood trim here in my E43 too

Piano black in the Jaguar XF was the main reason was this was preferred. Reflection/micro scratches/finger prints were a nightmare.

Just popped this in this thread as well as the tyre one. Got some new PS4S fitted to my W204 C63:

I've had a bit of a 30 mile drive on them today and they are as fantastic as I remember them to be. You get to the point in a bend where you think "I should be understeering here".... but you're not and the tyres still aren't anywhere near the edge of their grip and you know you could push it even harder if you had the balls. The front's now being stickier has just highlighted the rears needing to follow suit. There are some Hankook S1 Evo 2's on the back which aren't bad tyres at all, but you can feel that they are the first to break away whilst the fronts are still happily clinging on like **** to a blanket.

In other news, the C63 is absolutely magnificent. Yes the cabin has a good few rattles, yes the gearbox isn't as responsive as the DCT was in the M3 and yes the interior is pretty dated these days, but on the other hand the brakes being nearly unfadeable on the road, the steering being so fast and responsive and that engine that just wants to destroy the world means it's such an absolute joy to drive. What an amazing car.

Let me know how you get in with those apple play boxes. It’s the only thing I miss on my prefacelift.

Epic, my old w204 was one of my favourite cars. Never had the PS4S on it though sadly.

Only reason I got rid of mine was that when driving hard you could easily get the car to overheat (transmission mainly).
I know this is a documented issue in the facelift w204’s as the revised front bumper actually impeded airflow, which is a shame.

Mercedes used to sell the black series cooling package as an upgrade which fixed this issue, very expensive though!

I’ve been offered 3 years free servicing as compensation. Sounds good?
That's decent - not sure what the cost is now but on my C180 in 2011 I had a service plan @£27 a month. Roughly a grands value..?

Edit: I remember they changed delivery date twice for my C180 too, and I was pretty upset - I asked for a Becker satnav (~£280) and they basically said **** off. I don't think they like to set precedent on freebies if issues occur. A grands value seems quite good.

Only worth if you keep the car that long.

3 services was less than £700 on the Coupe I had, used the black Friday offer they had on, and paid monthly. Only used 2 out of 3 services, and somehow got nearly £320 credit back just before I handed it back. :)

Haha, I remember this too! I only did 2 of the 3 services, I swear my credit back was like £400. Couldn't believe my luck/their calculations. No idea how they worked that one out.

Yeh, that was one thing I noticed when I first got it. Even after a relatively sedate drive, when parking up you could hear the metal parts on the car pinging as it all cooled down. I've found it's very easy to get it hot and have seen 118c on the engine oil just by using a few revs on narrow country roads where you can't get much speed up to get the airflow. Definitely can see the car overheating on track.

Congratulations, you made it home this time ;) Sorry I couldnt resist

HA HA!! Fair enough :D

It's behaving, so far! I'm driving down to London on Monday, let's see how it goes! D

At least I've had a good few test drives of various other Mercedes. New E Class, GLB. Turns out the GLB is based on a stretched A Class chassis!

oh blimey!! hope there was no damage? Are they light enough to just splatter?

I remember an old friend hitting a Badger in his R33 GTR. totally wrecked his Carbon splitter

No damage, think I only clipped it so wasn't a full on splat! I did stop to check the bird but couldn't find it so guessing it hobbled off.

I remember hitting a duck many years ago in a Scania 420 artic, cracked the windscreen & the duck just disintegrated :D
Badgers are beefy old things so will usually win.
