Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

I've just mailed them and said I want the car taken away and we're done.

The salesman mailed last night "we'll get this sorted as a matter of urgency". It's just gone 11am and I've not heard a peep.....
Stick by your guns.. unbelievable experience.

But you'll also pay more for MBUX and if it is indifferent to you then why pay more?

I would be incredibly surprised if the discount on a run out model was sufficient to result in a materially lower TCO than buying one of the first of the all new model, which will be significantly stronger residually.

And if a modern car is not something you are that bothered about - which many are not - then why order a new one? Plenty of approved used examples of basically exactly the same car at half the price.

Edit: I am sure you are well aware but the CLA is an entirely different class of car for a multitude of reasons. We aren't buying a hifi on wheels here, we are buying a car that has a hifi fitted

The CLA is sufficiently similar to a previous gen C Class to beg the question of what Merc were doing even introducing it - I'd definitely pick a new CLA over an old C Class at this point for the reasons outlined above. They are virtually the same size - infact by the look of it the CLA may even be LARGER than the C Class?!

A modern car computer system is not a hifi - it is the centre of the car. It is the area where there has been the most progress in cars over the last 10 years. It controls everything and is the interface you have with the entire car. It isn't just a music system or a navigation screen.

For some people a car is just that - a car. They are not particularly bothered about the detail. But most of these people are not purchasing a Mercedes Benz.

You are now questioning the entire PCP/new market. The last of the outgoing model isn't a new concept :p

Of course it isn't - but that doesn't mean the merits of doing so are not worthy of discussion.

It's not like they are selling them at half price. You're still paying significantly large amounts of money for a car that came out in 2013.

I'm afraid a discussion is a means to share ideas or reach an agreement (to agree or disagree). Getting into a debate with you over any of the points you have made doesn't fill me with confidence on either of those enriching my life :o

Edit: And the constant edits make it even harder to follow :p

Performance exhaust is good but mainly because you can open the valuables on/off, so it give flexibility.

for me the non negotiable options were:

- Carbon fibre interior
- Pano roof

The additional spec I got with my S205 was just a bonus really.
Interesting, I have really gone off carbon fibre. It just became 'the thing' and it was why I was trying to find a car without it inside.

Mercedes customer service is proving itself quite poor.

Today I phoned up Stafford Mercedes to check a couple of things before my booking on the 15th.

"What booking?"

"The one I spoke to you about last week, and I have emailed to me."

"Sorry, we can't service the AMG's, you need to go to Stoke or Wolverhampton, let me get the same inept people to call you back and reschedule..."

"Don't worry, I will speak to them myself"

Not impressed...

Most Mercedes dealerships are just franchises.

When I enquired Mercedes about buying my c63, customer service was 10/10. Any questions I had was answered promptly and video tour and FaceTime video of the car was provided for me.

Once i paid for the car, Mercedes did not contact me again. The car was delivered one month ago (by an outsourced company) and Mercedes haven’t called once to check up on me. Doesn't bother me because the dealership is not local to me and I won’t be using them for servicing or repairs.

Wow!!! That’s crazy!! To be fair to Inchcape they’ve sorted all my car issues

the tech guy came and looked at the car. It was the fan flap controller thing. Water had got in it and it broke. Had to drive it back to the dealer, where I’m stood outside waiting for a courtesy car.....freezing my nuttys off!!

You taking the repair or pushing for the refund?

I said one more chance, unless this is a bigger issue than just the fan controller. How could water have got in it? It’s located at the top of the fan...It barely accelerated when I drove there too...

I’m now in a ‘70 plate GLB.....hateful thing! I’ve become a soccer Mom!

@panthro, i have a facelift but I think the must-have options still apply. Don't go for anything less than a Premium Plus model, which basically gives you everything you'd want:

- Burmester sound system
- Panoramic roof
- Seat memory package/both passenger and driver fully electric seats
- Bigger screen (worth it just for this)
- COMAND online (for the pre-facelift)
- 360 degree camera/park assist
- Keyless Go

And a few other useful things.

If you can get the Drivers Assistance package which is a bit rarer, then you get Adaptive cruise, lane assist, and blind-spot checking (which I hate)

Had a similar experience. Booked my car in, got there and they had not booked it in and did not have the parts they needed. Abysmal

I've got the ash tree black wood, to be honest with a couple of kids it's probably the best option to not end up with fingerprints everywhere due to the matte finish. I'm also a bit wary of glossy trims because they have always appeared to get micro scratches on previous cars I've owned. But they do look good.

I'd go along with pretty much what everyone else says with regards to w205 options. The only thing I really miss from my previous car is (BMW) driver assist plus, although I really love the Mercedes cruise stalk. As fox says, the prefacelift COMAND setup is also terrible (especially vs iDrive), but I mainly use an Echo Auto for radio/music, and Google maps for navigation. I may well take a punt on one of those Carplay/Android Auto boxes you can get on Alibaba for about £150, most of them seem to be the same as the boxes that people are selling for £500+ in the UK, although obviously they'll have better support if needed.

Here's the ash tree:
