brand new C300d, a replacement for my E63 that was nothing but trouble too...
I can well imagine how annoyed you are. Mercedes needs to do something more than just fixing your car for this level of hassle. I have to say my view of Mercedes so far, based on 2 cars only, is they suffer from lots of foibles. My E Class has loads of annoying things, be it bonnet open messages when it isn't, seat belt not on messages when it is, flat tyre warnings when it's not and a few other things. My GT-R has the suspension malfunction message at 3.9k miles (from my research a common issue with the cars) so it seems they need to do work on their quality control.

It’s Inchcape Mercedes, huge dealership in derby.

I know this is only one fault with the new car, but tbh I’d like to hand it back and walk away. Reckon I have grounds for that?

they did do all the warranty work on the E63 to be fair, but even the mechanic said it was a nightmare car!

I’ve never bought a brand new car so don’t know on what grounds you can reject a car but I would have thought a breakdown of the sort you need to be recovered would seem a reasonable basis for one. With secondhand cars, don’t you get 14days to hand it back so you should get the same sort of protection.

Just googled this

Carbuyer.co.uk said:
Assuming the car you’ve bought was purchased after October 2015, if it goes wrong within the first 30 days of ownership, you can simply reject it out of hand for a full refund. If a fault develops after those 30 days but within the first six months, the dealer gets one chance to fix it. If they fail to do this, you’re entitled to a full refund, or a partial refund after the use you’ve had of the car has been taken into account.

Seems legit:

I'm sure they will try and wiggle but you need to act quick (< 30 days but these things will be dragged out...)

Anyone got a W205 C63? What options are considered worthwhile?

Top of your list should be performance exhaust. Don’t buy one without it. If it doesn’t have PE then it’s not worth getting.

Other options that were a priority (no particular order) when I got my c63 was:

- Premium plus package for the Burmester sound system, intelligent led headlights and comfort access keyless go.
- Night pack. I don’t like the look of chrome or silver trims so definitely wanted night pack.
- Non white paint colour because it looks cheap If I got a white one I would wrap it so not the end of the world.
- 19 inch wheels for aesthetics. If you value comfort don’t get the 19s
- Driver assistance package for the adaptive cruise control. Cant use cruise control with distronic cruise control because idiots on the road don’t seem able to maintain a constant speed.

I'd put the Premium plus package over the PE every day of the week. Doesn't it also come with Pan roof?

What rotten luck. I’d be interested to see what Mercedes has to say. I think I’d be suggesting that they fix it immediately with the understanding that if any other issue crops up, you’ll be returning the vehicle and walking away.

Performance exhaust is good but mainly because you can open the valuables on/off, so it give flexibility.

for me the non negotiable options were:

- Carbon fibre interior
- Pano roof

The additional spec I got with my S205 was just a bonus really.

Yeah, I tempted to say "one more breakdown and you're having it back", but then this is the 2nd car they've sold me that's had issues. Who knows, maybe this is just a small new car teething issue.

Much to Fox's delight, I've just been looking at BMW tourings :D

I'm not saying this as a BMW fan because I also really like Mercedes but I think this is a blessing for you. The C Class is really dated now inside and isn't a great brand new purchase. The competition is way ahead (As is Mercedes themselves - the CLA for example is much more modern inside than the C Class and has been for a year or so now).

Which isn't to speak ill of Mercedes - after all, the C Class came out 7 years ago now and is being replaced this year with an all-new model, but that makes it not a great time to be getting into a brand new example of the old model. It's still a great car - and IMHO one of the nicest looking saloons ever - but, yea.

Last car of the previous gen is always a great idea. All the crap ironed out, lots of options thrown in, and typically dirt cheap.

The 'crap' is ironed out years before the end of production and in the case of the C Class means you get the worst media/nav/dash system in it's class by absolutely miles. Meanwhile if you buy a CLA instead you'll get MBUX which is about the best in the business.

Once you've got last the mid life facelift fundamental improvements are thin on the ground.

Any discount you get is usually cancelled out by the brutal depreciation it will then receive given as the market will perceive most facelift C class to be the same irrespective of whether it's 5 or 7 years old when it's time to resell.

This isn't just a Mercedes thing. For some reason people are still buying brand new 4 Series Gran Coupes too. Madness.

But you'll also pay more for MBUX and if it is indifferent to you then why pay more?

These cars are likely to be bought on PCP as well so depreciation is an exact known figure upfront.

Edit: I am sure you are well aware but the CLA is an entirely different class of car for a multitude of reasons. We aren't buying a hifi on wheels here, we are buying a car that has a hifi fitted :p

I've just mailed them and said I want the car taken away and we're done.

The salesman mailed last night "we'll get this sorted as a matter of urgency". It's just gone 11am and I've not heard a peep.....
