Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

My (new to me) MB is sporting the original MPSS tyres and I'd like to change them to something better. The obvious choice is MP4Ss but I can't get the MO fitment for the rear. So I thought about not limited myself to MO fitment at all, and getting a full set of CSC7s. Has anyone fitted these to their Merc and found it an improvement?

I have a MB warranty in place, but I've read they don't care what tyres you fit, MO fitment or otherwise.

I’m running CSC6s and they’re excellent. I haven’t once struggled with grip, even in these cold situations.

I’m in an S5 so not a Merc, but good tyres nevertheless

Are they 295 30 20 like they are on the E63? As they are available as I looked yesterday (MPS4S), because I wanted to know how much they cost as I changed the fronts and they were almost £300 fitted each! As the rears are larger than the fronts I was curious how much they were going to be.

The rears are 285/30/20 - only the Super Sport and Cup2s are avaiable in MO fitment. The MPS4S are clearly a better tyre overall than the Super Sports, that's a given, however when I look at the front tyres and compare the MO fitment MPS4S against the standard non MO version, there is a different in the tyre's label attributes (and price). This leads me to believe there is actually a difference in the compound... whether this really makes a noticeable difference to how the car drives... is unclear. I did read some MB bumf that non MO spec tyres could affect how the safety systems etc perform, but I think this is pure hogwash.

Anyway, this is why I don't want to limited myself to a certain type/brand of tyre if there are better out there - the CSC7 appears to be getting very good results but I do notice it performs much worse (compared to the MPS4S) in aquaplaning resistence and in terms of overall comfort - https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre-Type/Passenger-Car-Summer-Max-Performance-Tyres/

I'm probably overthinking all this.

In that case I would write the CSC7s off, as the tyre is so wide there will be a very real possibility of aquaplaning. I would go with the non MO tyres personally and agree with you that it’s hogwash about them affecting the safety systems, otherwise the use of non MPS4S tyres would cause issues as well.

As an aside, I’ve aquaplaned in my E63S on MPS4S so I certainly wouldnt want to have tyres that are worse in that department

Good point re the CSC7s, I think the non MO MPS4S tyres allround is the best route, that way I'm not mixing compounds. Are you happy enough with your E63S? I was looking at these too, but I wanted something smaller and lighter this time around.

Definitely, I love the car. It’s plenty fast enough and with it being 4WD, the power is really accessible. It is obviously big and heavy, but I like fast cruisers, so it suits my usage. No idea what I want after this though to replace it when the time comes

Just had a w205 c63 estate delivered earlier this week. Overall happy with it, but something that’s bothering me is the wheels. I can help but think they’re not the genuine items as it’s like the offset is wrong for the car and they stick out almost to the edge of the arches. Can’t see any spacers either.

Tyre sizes are 245/35/19 on the front which looks fairly stretched and 265/35/19 on the back which looks a bit less stretched.

Photos. Any thoughts as to what they are?

Turns out the wheels are 10.5j all round as opposed to 8.5/9.5j stagger per oem. Not sure what to make of that being that it’s come from a main dealer. Oem wheels, but not spec.

Looks like a previous owner has gone for a square setup, but used wheels from the coupe - my rears are 10.5J, that would certainly look odd on the front axel.

So much for the series of checks used cars are supposed to go through before sale. Will be an interesting conversation with your dealer when you asked them to sort this out.

Sorry forgot to ask, how are you getting on with your C63S coupe?

I'm quite smitten actually, it's my first Merc, let alone AMG. As you're aware, it's the engine that brings the drama and very much dominates everything. Reminds me of my old E39 M5 in that respect.

Early days, but I'm finding it lots of fun. I should have gotten one years ago

Just got my car (S205 C43) serviced and one of the items that came up was one of the dampers has "a light misting if oil" so will need to be changed soon. The last time I had to replace suspension was on my E46 M3 and I can't remember the cost, but for 1 damper it's £300 for the part alone because it's electronic. Does this sound reasonable and should I replace both at the same time?

Age and mileage?

God it's good to be back in a wagon again.

I loved my C43 wagon, but obviously moved on to a C63 saloon, and don't get me wrong, I adored that car but I forgot how special wagons feel to drive and to look at.

The change from C63 to C63S has been interesting, it's amazing just how much firmer the suspension is on the S, and while that's not ideal on some roads and road surfaces (I'm looking at you M25), it absolutely makes the car feel so much better. In comfort on the non S, there was a fair bit of body roll that I never found to be a problem at the time, but now I'm in the S, I notice just how much of an improvement it is.

The AMG performance seats are very comfortable as well, had a slight concern going from the sport seats, that they may be uncomfortable on long journeys, but 3.5 hour round trip in them yesterday and they're just as good, if not a little better due to how much they hug you on the sides.

Only thing I miss about my old car is the fact it was mapped, that extra 100lbs/ft that's missing on the new car is noticeable but I've got 3 years warranty on this new car, and given the issues I had towards the end with my old one, I definitely won't be voiding it by remapping any time soon :D

Tuning box instead?

Some of them guarantee it's traceless. Not sure they do much/if anything, but might be an option if you're really missing the extra torque.

I really miss my estate too. The sportback is a great compromise, but I just love a fast estate.

Well, I’m still without my AMG GT-R. Dealer has had the car for 86 days this time, and 30 days right before that.

They found a faulty rear SAM, and had to replace the ECU and battery at the same time. It had just had a new Lithium ion battery 1 month before I got it, but they insisted. After 2 months they couldn’t get a battery then decided it was ok to proceed.

Now they can’t get the new ECU to program to the car, and it has been sitting in this state for a month. I honestly don’t know what to do. Mercedes have been utterly hopeless, their communication is non existent and they simply don’t seem to care. $200k paperweight….

Missed that, nice move. I couldn't live without a wagon. It's annoying how limited the choices are for a mid size performance estate. It's either an M340i, M3 Touring (if you have 100k to spend), RS4 or C63.

E43/E53 are peak performance estates IMO. Keeps the cost down enough to buy something properly fun on the side.
