Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

We picked our new (to us) A180 Saloon last weekend which involved a roadtrip down to Peterbourough to collect:

However one feature this car doesn't have that we would like is wireless charging. We were looking at something like this and I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience of these aftermarket parts please?
Does it have wireless android auto/car play? I find I will be plugging my phone in 9 times out of 10 anyway.

Well, I’m still without my AMG GT-R. Dealer has had the car for 86 days this time, and 30 days right before that.

They found a faulty rear SAM, and had to replace the ECU and battery at the same time. It had just had a new Lithium ion battery 1 month before I got it, but they insisted. After 2 months they couldn’t get a battery then decided it was ok to proceed.

Now they can’t get the new ECU to program to the car, and it has been sitting in this state for a month. I honestly don’t know what to do. Mercedes have been utterly hopeless, their communication is non existent and they simply don’t seem to care. $200k paperweight….
The biggest issue for me with the car are the dealerships you have to use. None of them get it here in the UK, all believe they are doing you a favour and are miles away from understanding the demands of these cars or many of their owners.

“Well you have a loan car pfffft” mindset

Sounds like you have a bad one. I’d bin it back to where it came and either try again or get something else. Mine clocked up 20k miles today, 16k ish in my hands and each one has been epic. Even coming onto the motorway from Warwick services this morning made me smile as I gave it some right foot at circa 50mph for it to light up the rears and start sliding. Everyone around crapped themselves whilst I pushed on squirming down the road. :D

Think Mercedes have clocked my old C63 :D

They're advertising it with 24k miles and a picture of the dash, yet I handed it over with 28k...

It's also up for £49k which is more than I paid for it 3 years ago with 20k less miles :D

It's just the Brabus exhaust tips with A CT Carbon diffuser. Exhaust is mostly stock other than that, did have the backboxes done at PCW but that's it.

Ah, I was looking into changing over to the Brabus exhaust for my coupe (maintains the warranty), but then realised you have to get the diffuser also. Can I ask where you got it ? There doesn't appear to be exactly lots of Brabus dealers around the UK.

Email Milton Keynes Mercedes. That’s who I dealt with for all the Brabus stuff. Couldn’t get a remap with them because my old car wasn’t an S, may look in to it again now with the new car

Brabus say it does, but Mercedes Newbury and Mercedes Reading both told me that they’d not cover anything engine or drivetrain related if I had it done

Thanks, after doing some reading it looks like Brabus take over the warranty concerning the engine and drivetrain which is probably why it’s so expensive

Turns out the wheels are 10.5j all round as opposed to 8.5/9.5j stagger per oem. Not sure what to make of that being that it’s come from a main dealer. Oem wheels, but not spec.
This has developed into quite a palaver. Dealer kept trying to fob me off stating wheels were 19 inch 5 spokes and so were as OEM.

Eventually wrote a long email stating the facts, and asking it to be referred to the dealer principle. Eventually came back to me later that day stating they needed to inspect the car.

Bearing in mind I’m in Surrey and I bought from them in Leeds, they decided to dispatch a driver with a courtesy car so they could pick the car up and take it back to the dealership for inspection.

At first they tried to tell me the wheels were on the wrong axle. I.e back on the from and vice versa.

Now they’re telling me actually that’s not the case and they want to replace them. And they’re planning to replace them by buying a second hand set of wheels per spec in, refurbing them and then putting my tyres on.

Not sure I’m very happy about another second hand set of wheels being added, but their arguement is it’s a second hand car.

Interested to hear what others would think in this situation? Kind of makes me want shot of the car tbh.

It shouldn't be difficult - put the VIN into their system, check the part number wheels it says should be fitted and compare to those that ARE fitted. If they were obviously aftermarket alloys they might have a point that you bought the car as seen, but given how OEM they are (just incorrect OEM) I think you have a fair case to at least get the correct size wheels put on. Be interested to know where they get the wheels from...

I would price up a full new replacement set and then start your negotiation from there.

You can get a full set, discounted from here:

If it was me, I would threaten to return the car or agree that the dealer cover the cost - ideally in full, but I might settle for partial if it meant new wheels all round.

So they're putting miles on your car? That would be an immediate no from me

I'd be happy with a refurbished set of wheels which are in as good condition as the ones currently on the car. I wouldn't expect new wheels on a car which is second hand/was second hand when I bought it.

I think that's a reasonable compromise.

However - the difference here is they've been absolutely dog about the entire situation. I would bring it to the attention of Mercedes customer care, on the basis that you want to give them some feedback of a dealership with the hope they can improve (i.e. not complain).

Got my MPS4S fitted yesterday, just after I took this picture. What a difference already; more comfortable and I think a bit quieter. I will be testing the improved traction out over the next few days.

I really like the standard wheels but one has some minor imperfections (chipped lacquer). I’m thinking of a replacement alloy (£1500-1800) or perhaps go big and get set of forged 3 piece HRE 540s.

Same, but I would get confirmation in writing where exactly they're sourcing this second hand set from, and for them to confirm they are in excellent condition, ie not cracked and re-welded. I'd also expect them to include a full X year first-party warranty on them, despite being second hand.

I'd be interested to know the outcome of this - I once had a chap from BMW assist offer to introduce me to a guy that could sort out my mileage before I got rid of the car. I think BMW assist might be outsourced right enough but I've always had my suspicions that the main dealers could get away with it if they wanted...
