Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

Just had a w205 c63 estate delivered earlier this week. Overall happy with it, but something that’s bothering me is the wheels. I can help but think they’re not the genuine items as it’s like the offset is wrong for the car and they stick out almost to the edge of the arches. Can’t see any spacers either.

Tyre sizes are 245/35/19 on the front which looks fairly stretched and 265/35/19 on the back which looks a bit less stretched.

Photos. Any thoughts as to what they are?

The tyre sizes are correct for the car, and the wheels were original fitment. Can see on Google images with c63s with those wheels

Stuck a camera down the back of the wheels to get part numbers and they do seem to be genuine, just very surprised at how much they stick out in the arch. Most other cars I’ve had have been well inboard unless spacers are added.

Yeah oil cooler seals are a proper PITA on the OM642. You have to remove pretty much everything. Them saying they'll do the job for "labour cost only" isn't really them doing you a favour - it's 9 hours labour (£120+VAT?) just to fit £50 of parts :p! How much are they charging you for labour by the way? I've had the job done at a very good specialist who does them day in day out, for around £770 all in. They should replace the oil cooler seals and a whole host of other seals and bolts along the way if they're doing a proper job.

Interesting to hear that they're still replacing rear subframes FOC. I've got a W204 and my partner's got a C207 - both of which use the same subframe and which apparently corrode away. I've got my car booked in for the airbag recall in March so hopefully they'll do an inspection as part of that.
I paid £512 in total.

But that was to literally replace the seals. Don't think they've replaced anything else, which i'm fine with.

The original £700 quote included new oil cooler at £160 which i didn't want.

The car is very close to 200k miles so i don't want to be spending lots on it. Hopeful now the seals are done it will last another few years.

There are plenty of videos online and guides on how to change the seals, but i don't have anywhere dry to do it, or the time right now. If i had a lit garage i'd of done it myself, cos i could take my time and do a whole host of other things too, like clean the intankes, check the swirl flaps etc

Yeah i heard the subframes have been recalled in the US and other countries but not here. So they are making it look like they are doing you a favour. But i'm not gonna complain.

Sadly, my AMG GTR has had a niggling electrical fault that has crippled the car. The battery isn’t charging through the car for some reason, and even if the battery is charged with an external charger I get warning lights after only a few minutes of driving. This prompts a “stop vehicle immediately” warning, then random systems start shutting down, finally culminating in not wanting to change gear and juddering under even gentle acceleration.

New lithium ion battery right before I bought it, then a new alternator 4 weeks ago (after sitting on the car for 2 weeks), now it has been at the dealer for another 2 weeks with no end in sight. Unfortunately it appears Mercedes dealers are just as bad this side of the pond, as communication has been absolutely abysmal.

I can see this being a very short ownership, which is a crying shame because the GTR is sensational to drive. The dealer has had the car for longer than I have now!

Car has now been with the dealer almost a month. Apparently needs a new rear Signal Acquisition Module, and in a bizarre turn of events, a new ECU. The odd part is Mercedes are covering the cost of the ECU, so I’m assuming they screwed something up, or there’s a little known TSB.

Kicker is I won’t have the car back until February at the earliest. Owned it since mid September, and it will have been at the dealer for 3 out of my 4 months of ownership.

Mine was in for close to 5 weeks waiting for parts too. They have a fair bit of bespoke stuff over the cooking GT’s I’m told

I am looking at R129 Mercedes SL's (as well as the older SECs and W/C124s). I've had a look at buyers guides but does anyone on the forum actually own one? What is it like to live with?

I prefer the slightly more angular pre-facelift model (especially the interior). It seems the best one to buy would be pre 98 but after the 1993 engine revisions? I am not too bothered about getting a 500 so this would be a SL320 (or maybe a 300 if I got an early one...)

Check for rust, especially the rear arches. This was the rust era of cheap metals and thin paint.

Car's got a bit of boost leak, weirdly, only feels down on power in higher gears. Trying to accelerate in 9th gear is just non existent, I put my foot down, I see the boost gauge max out and the car just feels rough as old boots

First issue since having the car, which is coming up to 3 years. I'm hoping it's something as simple as a vacuum hose...I'm actually a little worried it's something more sinister :( obviously not under warranty any more either because of the remap

What was your requirement behind the remap, more power or improved drivability?

I would have thought ~500bhp, limited RWD traction and the improved gearbox - over the PFL - would have negated the need for a remap, unless simply chasing power figures.

Sure thing, if it translates to the road ;)

What tyres are you running? I've heard of traction issues in wet weather with the MPSSs that were standard fit on my car.

Yeah the MPSS were junk that came with the car, moved to Pilot Sport 4S's and noticed a big, big improvement. Obviously on wet or even greasy roads you're still going to lose traction if you floor it, but it's a lot better

Didn't fancy an E?

I looked at E63's for ages, but for the facelift ones (the ones with the new grille/dials etc), low milage and a similar age, 2021. They're about 75-80k for a good spec one which is just a bit more than I'm comfortable with. Plus, they're just that little bit bigger, wider especially, that meant parking it would have me worrying more than I already do. As where I live, parking spaces are so bloody narrow

An S class popped up on one of Auto trader searches yesterday, think I'd prefer an E over it due to cost. Not sure it's worth risking an older version of either.
