Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

The current C class coupe looks really dated to me, especially the interior. This is a big step up, its a very classy looking car.

Is this a joke? Have you been in one?

Arguably the dashboard is better looking in the old one and the sat nav far better integrated. The only improvement I can see is the center console being a little bit more flashy.

Looks like it is the case and I just misread it. Looks like it only needs a mobile phone tethered for using internet on the COMAND system, which who would anyway?

Yep, internet browser is not all that, but I use Google Maps sometimes, as well as News feed, TuneIn and Weather etc. Bought a Osprey 2 Mini, with a spare 3 AYCE data sim feeding it, which stays in the car and gives a wifi hotspot for the 'lids and their tablets too :p

Yes I've been in one.

You'll walk away laughing once you sit in it. Truly dire, probably the worst attempt at an interior Mercedes have ever made. What makes it all the more frustrating is some of the best interiors in the world are courtesy of Mercedes so quite how they got it so wrong in the C is beyond me. It's just junk in there, everything about it sucks from the Astra style centre console through to the pathetic low resolution infotainment screen.

It seems somebody got shouted at for such a poor effort because ridiculous nav screen aside, the interior in the new model C Class is absolutely outstanding and is hands down best in class.

Im talking about the facelift version, they overhauled the interior completely in 2011.

The pre facelift w204 I am in agreement it doesn't look great.

I would go with 'tweaked' rather than 'completely overhauled', it still sucks badly for a Mercedes.

I'm honestly surprised you think that. I sat in a co-workers C250 facelift coupe earlier this week and it was pleasant place to be.

The interior of a E90 facelift does not seem to be any different to my eyes nor the A4. Those 3 cars are what I would consider comparable.

Had new discs, pads and wheel nuts fitted all round today. Also had the headlights restored. My Indie at Prestige Car Service did an amazing job as usual, well worth the 90 min journey each way (had fun at the historic dockyard in Portsmouth while waiting too). Just waiting for the brakes to be ready for a good test and some daylight to give the callipers and wheels a good clean :). Will also seal the headlight.

What are you planning to use to reseal the headlights?

This is something I'd like to know, I've restored headlights twice and both times they started to haze again come summer. I did consider clear coating then with lacquer at one point, that'd sort it.

Well I did mine a couple of weekends ago and used a spray on clear coat UV lacquer but the finish wasn't what I expected (it was a bit hazy and not really smooth) so I ended up taking it off again. Maybe i just didn't apply it properly :p

Are there any C220/C250cdi 7G+ Owners in here? Interested in real life MPG, is 50 combined actually doable?

I use to have a 13' c250cdi coupe. I think over the 10000 miles I got an average of 38mpg. On a motorway run I'd usually get around 45-50mpg and in the city considerably worse around 25-30.

lolwut. That's awful. How do manufacturers get away with their mpg quotes honestly? You'd think it'd be within like 5-10% at worst.

Oh well scratch that plan!

That seems unusually bad...

My dad had a C220 CDI (10 plate) a few years ago and managed significantly more than those figures in all cases...

Tbh I'm sure you could get closer to the combined average if you drive at 65mph on the motorway. I think the best I ever achieved was close to 57mpg driving sedately at just over 60.

Regardless you're not going to get close to 50mpg combined. I'd expect 42-44 best case. My 38mpg was mainly due to a larger proportion of city driving (50-50). Also mine was brand new and I've heard generally mpg improves as the car ages, though not sure how true that is.

I have noticed that my CLS - admittedly, a different engine - has improved around 5-10% now it is about 9 months old. My driving style and route/mileage has been the same and I now see circa. 45mpg on motorway runs, against 42mpg (both per computer); this is no doubt helped by the swathes of contraflow on the M3 presently! Car has 11k on it, and the above improvement noted over the last couple of months.

Thoughts on E Class 220 diesel estate used ? Currently driving a Honda CRV 56 plate been great for towing the van but all the similar cars Xtrail , new CRV etc have all gone down in engine size so not sure so good for towing ? All the other big 4 x 4 are greedy motors for normal driving around which is what happens all year except for summer. Basicly need a big car with room for 3 adults in the back. E class seemed roomy??
