Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

I just popped to Mercedes Derby to get a price on replacement AMG floor mats....

:O Over £300!!!

I went for the cheaper ones, I assume they're AMG Line, so won't add as much BHP

Parked up at the gym. Leave the gym and develop a loud clicking sound on the rear tyre. Nothing in the tyre, wonder whether it is the parking brake. Hopefully it goes away?

Well I got to the bottom of it! Turns out it was the front wheel and there was a branch (that I now remember driving over earlier) stuck through the suspension, over the brake disk and partly through the alloy spokes. Thought it sounded like a bicycle clicker that clicks on the spokes!

Is the GLC 43 worth the extra £10k over a GLC 250 petrol? Seems quite an increase for a fake AMG model still.

Ignore the AMG part - are you asking if it's worth paying extra for more for a car with more performance? The 43 has +200BHP on the 250. Works out to £6.5k when you factor in the air suspension is standard on the 43. It's an SQ5 equivalent if that makes it easier for you?

Air suspension standard... are you sure? I was under the impression that the 43 came with AMG suspension (which was just lowered springs essentially). The 43 only has 160bhp or so on the 250 petrol.

Edit: just read up and yes does indeed seem to come with airmatic as standard, fair dos.

I’m off later on today to look at an 65 plate E220 Bluetec AMG Night Edition. Nothing too fancy as it’ll be the family car. Is there anything I should be aware of and look out for while I’m checking it over?

Additional quick question - it appears to come with adaptive suspension. What exactly is this? I don’t think it’s an air suspension.

Looks like it's electronically controlled suspension rather than air suspension.

Starting to contemplate what to replace my CLK with and looking towards either a W205 or W213 depending on what my actual budget ends up being.

I hear good things about the e220d’s new engine but would a 10 mile commute be too short for a diesel? Traffic makes this a 30-45 minute journey each way every day without fail so it’s not like it wouldn’t be able to get up to temperature. Using the A34 once a week is optional if it needs to get up to speed.

Otherwise I think my best option is a C200 petrol? I know the CLK was based on the C class of the time with some E class features which is what’s swaying me towards the newer car but the hire C220d I had a while ago was impressive except for the tractor engine so either is probably a significant upgrade over my almost 20 year old design. Would also save me a wad of cash/get me a better spec car.

Sport trim with the Premium Plus pack seems to be preferable, with dark ash trim rather than gloss.

It’s been nice having a V6 but traffic is so bad here that I never get to enjoy it properly so it’s just costing me more money than is reasonable. Current mpg is 25 average so any improvement is a win.

You sound like the ideal candidate for the C350e hybrid, it one of the newer one when they are out, if you are buying new that is. Sensible driving will get you 15+ miles of range on pure electric power, and there is good power and torque when you need it. :)

Sadly where I live rules out any plug in car. Wouldn’t stop start traffic or slow moving at least ruin the range?

Probably, but at 20 miles a day it won't be an issue.

Ash trim is a must. The gloss is a bit tacky and a bitch to keep clean.

My C63 is being traded in today. Would you believe it, the CEL came on last night?! The last time I'll drive it! (other than dropping it off today). It still runs fine so I'm hoping it's nothing too bad
