Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

My C63 is being traded in today. Would you believe it, the CEL came on last night?! The last time I'll drive it! (other than dropping it off today). It still runs fine so I'm hoping it's nothing too bad

You only got it early this year didnt you?

Yup, change in job = way more miles. Can't justify a 6.2 for a 200 mile commute.

Ahh makes sense, shame though. After having diesels for quite a while and going back to petrol, Ive been really enjoying the E43, so much so I might be tempted to go for the new E63 next and as its only a 4l v8 with cylinder shut down :D

I'm having an issue with my Airmatic suspension dropping on the rear whenever it's parked and I feel like it's getting worse. I went away for a little over 2 weeks and when I came back the rear wheels were up inside the arches. I don't know how long it took to get that bad but I can leave it a day and it's dropped enough to notice that something is wrong. It goes back to normal as soon as I start the car.

I had a leaking airbag on one side when I bought the car 18 months ago and that was replaced and everything was fine. I don't think it's the airbags leaking as both sides drop together and one of the airbags is less than 18 months old.

Has anyone here had an issue like this or any ideas what it could be? The nearest Mercedes place I can take it to get looked at is a 90min drive away so I'd like to have a crack at it first if I can.

The car is a 2012 W218 CLS.

Potentially. No idea how to get to them though. I've got a feeling that there's either moisture in the system or the valve block is on it's way out.

I am looking to replace my car, been looking at a few motors. On my short list is an CLS, i think they are one of the nicest 4 door coupes out there and they petrol versions are V8s. I have been itching to have a V8 for years now, so planning to view a CLS500 this weekend. But also with my searching i am came across a couple of w210 E55 AMG's both have imported from Jersey, the dealer of one of them seems to know his stuff, said its is in great condition and looking at the picture it does. Its a potential classic? Anyone owned either?

My Golf R goes back end of the year and just looking around at possible replacements.

Had been thinking about a 2016 M3 but started looking at C63 saloons, same year, and am swaying towards one of those at the moment.

Anyone here got one of the newer 4.0 models, or had much experience with them? :)

What year are you looking at? Mine's a 2012 with the 4.7 twin turbo V8. Absolutely lovely little motor and gets pretty good mpg considering what it is. On a long motorway drive with some spirited driving in between I managed ~31mpg.

The cls500’s are both 2008 so have the 5.5 v8.

Better put £2k aside for general maintenance and potential repairs on a car like that. My 2008 CLK350 is bad enough.

7G tronic TCU repair cost me £732 and cam shaft adjusters £502 (pretty sure this can affect the M273 too). I'm still debating whether to spend the quoted £826 on refreshing the suspension yet or waiting until it's next service to see what MB quote.

I'd be looking for one with the AMG Sports pack too, otherwise you don't get flappy panels, better suspension, nicer exhausts, etc. A lot of CLS of that age are poorly specified (no satnav, no heated seats, etc). The E55 if it's a similar price might be a better buy depending on the condition, being a proper AMG - but check them properly for rust as that and suspension problems are what tends to kill Mercs of that age more than anything, especially if it's been near the sea it's entire life on Jersey. The 5G tronic and M113 engines are pretty reliable.

Double that if it’s got Airmatic suspension. I’m constantly having issues with mine but they’ve been covered by the warranty so far.

Other than that I haven’t had a single issue with it yet. The gearbox is super slow to change gear (~1s when using paddles) but I’m not sure if that’s normal.

I’ve only spent $250 on it so far. That was for the A Service at the dealer. They properly pulled my pants down

Well i went to look at a CLS500 as planned at the weekend, well i loved the engine and the CLS as a car. Shame that the one i viewed, the air con was not working, had started to rust around the rear doors and the history was not as good as was claimed. May have to travel for a decent one if i want a petrol, loads of 320 and 350 cdi's around though.

Any advice on E-Class convertibles? Was looking around one at Mercedes World on Sunday and the Mrs fell in love with it. It was an E220d but can't remember the trim level. Wondering which options are worth the money if we decide to go for a new one.

I'd imagine it would have been a full spec'd model they would have had there, so Premium Plus pack (£2,895) which includes better stereo, Keyless GO, Multibeam LED, memory seats, etc. Then they'd have the Comfort Package (£2,995) which includes COMAND Online system (full digital side-by-side screens), Air Body Control (fully active suspension), and the air balance package (posh air freshener), and they would have probably had the 20" wheels too (£595).

I'm pretty sure if you take the Comfort package also allows you to chose a full leather seating package also, as opposed to the Artico fake leather (which is actually really good). If you are getting it for your wife, get the 360 degree camera, ha :p

I would avoid the E220D model, as much as the newer 2.0L diesel engine is actually decent, the E300 offers a much better value proposition moving forward, as demand for second hand diesel falls off a cliff in the next 3-5 years, especially if you are buying out right and not leasing it. I'd take all the options listed above, other than the wheels unless you like them then you'd also need to chose a colour which can be up to £895. Non discounted retail cost is about £50k. :)
