Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

I am coming....coming to the club.

Will I get bummed?

Not only do I have a Mer See Deeees incoming.....

...I have an AMG one, their super high performance 220d one, so I am now part of you all.

Love me like one of you own.

Full Taxi spec E Class

Snap! Great car. Love mine!

I wanted a cheap waft box and the E 220 AMG seemed to fit that box well. I realised sitting in yet another traffic jam in an epic but a loud shouty car that I didn't want a less shouty hot hatch as my daily again. I wanted something that shuts me away from the noise, world and has some toys and a seat I can fall asleep in....not that I would fall asleep.

I don't get the AMG line E class really.

Instead of cow hide, you get fake leather seats and a nasty plastic looking attempt at a stitched dash. The larger wheels look better than the 17s on the SE, but make everything more crashy, which goes entirely against the point of this car.

But I guess everything has to be 'sporty' these days, even a diesel Merc. It even comes with a flat bottomed steering wheel...

PS when you say it has 'the screen', they all have 'a screen' in the centre, or do you mean you added COMAND online, in which case you now get the digital instrument cluster included. But you said you only added paint so I guess you don't have 'the screen' that Robbo was referring to. Unless they're now throwing the wide-screen in with the AMG trims?

I like my AMG as it makes people think I am 1 better than the people in the SE bin diver model, people will think I am special and not confuse me for the SE Taxi edition. Also, I have a race licence so I am of course only interested in overall grip and poise so the suspension 'set up' will allow me to take a couple of 10th's off the run down my drive and this again is vital to someone to whom time is money. I might take a screwdriver to the badge as people will probably think it's the big V8 one that Clarkson drives so again, raise me above those idiots in Audi's.

I believe the dash looks like the widescreen but has a smaller screen but frankly, I don't care. I decided I wanted a cheap wafter from a German brand and this one was the cheapest I could find at the moment I was buying (OK lease but it's mine and I can afford one....if I want to honest...well that's what's people will think when I drive into a housing estate and that's all that matters) and I liked the look of the AMG one more. I have said many times I don't like leather seats, I probably don't like fake leather ones either but unlike many owners/leasers on here, I said I'll put 300 quid into daily per month and that is what I have done. I didn't want white so asked them to find me a black one and then paid some money and the car arrives soon. I had a Polo GTI daily, it would make your teeth fall out lest people wonder why I went AMG bump special spec.

I know this will **** with some peoples head, but this is just 'some car' I will use to go up and down motorways and it will be a LOT smoother than the other car I have and a LOT more relaxing, so that's good then.

:)

Good choice, some cracking lease deals on those at the moment. Mercedes also seem to be cranking out GLCs for fun as well for ~250 + VAT. A lot of car for the money.

I think i'll be tempted by an E-class estate next time around.

For the rental money it's a superb value daily driver that pretty much ticks all of my boxes. Walk into a Mercedes dealer and you will not get close, be it lease or PCP or even a cash buy as the depreciation will be more. I will add a tow bar when it arrives and I can then tow my race car (be it my current one or a new one) something I have not been able to do for sometime and therefore have had to rent a van each time I want to move it.

I wanted a good value daily driver that was bigger and more rounded and relaxed than my last one, which was fun and ideal for stations, but less so on the M6 or sitting in traffic which I am doing more than I would like. I loved my old 530D which I bought rather than leasing so something 5/E/A6 was really where I wanted to get back to again after deciding last week another hot hatch though fun, was probably not the most sensible approach. Current 5 Series is a better car I think, but not 150-200 a month better based on lease numbers as leasing is my preferred route at present due to the money I am having to spend on my house this year and next.

It was purely down to what is the nicest executive saloon I could get into for around 300 quid a month. That was the main criteria so having loads of options is not really sensible on such a car as you will pay for their rental on top. Yea Command would be nice, the big screens would be nice, the V8 fast one great too but then we have 500 - 900 a month and that is missing my plan somewhat. So I approached a great little lease company after they emailed me with the E Class details and it was done.

Signed the paperwork yesterday so just waiting for my car now.

My E Class arrives on the 10th of October.

It is a MY19 car apparently and I was wondering if anyone has a list of the changes they have mad to MY19 cars over MY18 cars?

Here are some pictures of the colour and spec I am getting.

Should do for 2 years of wafting and people carrying.

The only one you'll probably notice is the new steering wheel, where they've given it more silver bits and transferred cruise control from the lever to the wheel.

Apart from that it was configuration changes like replacing engines and paint colours, and making some options standalone.

Looks like your car won't have the mouse pad style tracker next to the rotating wheel in the centre console, which is great for drawing sat nav addresses. Might be part of COMAND online, can't remember.

I simply took these images from the Mercedes UK website, which seems to show the standard car and then changes the image as you add options. Only option I added was Obsidian black paint as didn't seem much point adding expensive options to a 2 year lease. I was the same with my old M3's and I bought them. Neither had Sat Nav added even though all the experts told me I would NEVER sell them without Sat Nav...which I did for around 500 less than a car with (£2,200 option back then) so I was right.

My parents car is similar Housey, but it has the Premium Pack, COMAND and Widescreen Cockpit. It's Obsidian Black too which always looks good with the chrome on Mercs.

That interior shot has the large COMAND screen, which at least on the launch model meant you got the mouse pad thing in the middle (not that I find it genuinely useful). The initial MY17 model also had the centre console in gloss black, which scratches really easily and is a dust magnet, so wood is better there.

The AMG Line suspension is very comfortable, even on 19" wheels with runflats. I think you'll be impressed with that, my F10 is quite a bit firmer on M Sport Suspension. Hard to fault the 220d engine, it's brisk and the MPG is impressive too.

My two main criticisms are that the UI is quite laggy at times, though yours may have the new Mercedes UX thing, which should be better, and the standard stereo, while clear, lacks bass.

Is this replacing the Polo then? Quite a different league in honesty (Polo being better of course :p).

Polo went weeks back, this is my new daily now.

I am confused on the screen size, but I think the picture is how is now comes, though not with the command software or features or resolution, but it seems the size is much the same (I have seen contradictions) but this is said to be standard interior.

Quite looking forward to getting it.

Cheap motoring for a brand new executive saloon I felt.

This is a 2017 car with the standard infotainment system. As you can see it's a smaller screen surrounded by gloss black.

If you spec COMAND, you get a larger screen (12.3") and the touch pad thing, as well as better software. The clocks stay the same. It looks like this:

If you spec COMAND and then add Widescreen Cockpit, you get this:

Which is 2x 12.3" screens within one unit. When the E Class was launched Mercedes struggled getting many of these units, so many 2017 cars don't have the widescreen option. They wouldn't even let people order them at one point. The dealer managed to find a pre-built one that had them which was lucky really.

However, the above is no longer relevant. Looking at the configurator on the website now, it seems the 12.3" COMAND screen is standard, but you don't get the touch controller without upgrading. However, upgrading now automatically gives you the widescreen cockpit option, it was an extra £495 before (on top of £1495 for COMAND).

That is what I thought. The 12.3" screen is standard, you don't get all the features and additional controls however unless you upgrade to Command. I am not bothered either way frankly, the smaller screen is still better than my iPhone stuck to an air vent running Waze :D

I will do what we all (should) do when we get a brand new car. Sit in it on the drive and play with the toys, referencing the manual whilst drinking coffee from a travel mug. This is the law.

Sadly I don't live on an estate of Jones's and am surrounded by (properly) rich people so they will think I am just an even bigger aras hole :D

And 12.3" is still a pretty massive screen! Oh, and it's like a nightclub in the dark with the OTT ambient lighting :p
Well I can confirm the widescreen is now standard fitment on my car, they have binned the smaller 8" ones they used to fit, as shown above.

It isn't the Command system so it's pretty basic but more than enough for what I want and need. Seems a good car but first impressions are the headlights are rubbish, really really rubbish. Now that is a combination of being spoilt and older age night sight I suspect but I found myself having to full beam them all the time.
