mercedes / pirelli tribunal thread

Meh, let it collapse....this is the 64th season of Formula One, it's had a good run. Time to run the Grand Prix World Championship to some other ruleset.

Do you honestly think the F1 teams could agree on a new set of regulations? They are, by design, unable to come up with anything that is 'for the common good'.

And nothing can be called a World Championship unless its FIA regulated, and I doubt the FIA would get involved in F1's replacement.

Actually, other than IndyCar, are there any major single seater series' that aren't FIA regulated? Who governs the World Series by Renault?

How come Ferrari with massa done a balance test also they had data from Pirelli and nothing is said by the fia?

I don't think Merc will leave for a minute but who would have Lewis and Nico if they did?

Do not under estimate how quickly a large company will withdraw from something if it makes them look bad. If Mercedes come out of this branded as cheaters the heads will not be happy. At the very least there sponsors will start questioning their relationship, just look at what happened to Renault after Crashgate, ING left so fast you didn't see which way they went.

Transmission is not the same as broadcasting..

trans·mis·sion
/transˈmiSHən/Noun
1.The action or process of transmitting something or the state of being transmitted: "the transmission of the HIV virus".
2.A program or signal that is broadcast or sent out.

Im afraid it IS EXACTLY the same thing.

We know your all annoyed at the BBC loosing live races, but if your going to go off on one, or send angry emails to the BBC at least make sure you know what your talking about..
Considering that you got the above wrong.......

They are very different styles of broadcast. The TV feed doesn't describe whats going on (well, unless its Leggard :p) as the viewer can see it. The R5L program also dips into other sports news throughout the broadcast and covers other things going on. It wouldn't really work.

In general you are right - in regards to F1 , I dont think they are as different as you describe.

Ive listened to several R5L and they are substantially the same (and in a lot of respects the tv commentary would work better than the current R5L even on the radio)

Im not disputting however that the best radio presenters are different to their TV colleagues, just not in this case.

As for the breaks for other news etc - there is no reason why they couldnt break into DC's / BE's commentary just the same.

Not in this context. The BBC content is transmitted from a truck parked in a paddock at a race to all the receiving companies over the globe. This includes BBC UK, but also lots of other customers. Those companies then use that to create a program they broadcast on their networks, either live or edited highlights.

The 'broadcast', in terms of the TV show that is on, is not entirely the BBC. The FOM feed is supplied independantly by FOM to the broadcasting companies. Its the combination of the 2 that creates the 'program'.

The accusation was that the BBC were producing an entire F1 program and broadcasting it accross the globe, but only showing highlights in the UK. This isn't the case. Any other country showing F1 live with BBC wrap arounds will have a seperate contract with Bernie for the TV pictures, and then one with the BBC for the audio and wrap around program. Its this lack of a contract for a live FOM feed that prevents the BBC broadcasting the whole program in the UK, nothing to do with what they are or aren't allowed to do with their own content.

Transmission is being used to describe the BBC sending the signal from the track, this doesn't include the live TV pictures. While Broadcast is being used to describe the full show, that being the FOM feed plus a wrap around show and commentary track. Dictionary definitions may say they are the same, but the words are being used to describe 2 different functions.

I'd be willing to bet that in some parallel universe where the FIA doesn't cave in to resistance from teams they'd very quickly find some common ground when the alternative is the dole queue.

And if not? Like I said - meh, let it collapse....
